The majority of the time, these leaks are caused by flux residue. It's just pure laziness. The pipe wasn't embedded in screed and was wrapped pretty well. I'd say it wasn't cleaned properly on installation. I've seen flux eat through flex pipe connections before, especially laco. When we have youngsters working with us, you have to drill em on cleaning their soldering work when finished. The rothenberger hose trigger torch is a beast for sweating awkward joints like that, bud.

I agree, flux is the biggest cause of pinholes, I am always so careful to remove all of mine, thanks for the support mate

Crikey that bath waste looked a bit tricky Tom. It allways amazes me why people have there baths fully tiled in and taps at the back of the wall. Anything goes wrong under that bath then it's usually a case of tile carnage. Everything seems to be form over function these days. Love your vids Tom, you are such refreshingly down to earth guy with no pretentious whatsoever.The cart racing looked great it'll be Red Bull soap race next! Keep up the great work 😊

Most plumbers wouldn't warranty it since it occurred at a different location than the original repair, so as you said not your fault. But I would just to make the customer happy, and then explain to them again it's possible this might happen in multiple places, but we are only warranting the area we WORKED on, not the whole pipe with different leaks that appear every couple months. If you want to avoid that possibility, go for a recipe - then we'll warranty the whole pipe. Strange situation indeed but good work!
@PlumbLikeTomАй бұрын
Thanks for the support mate, I have now explained to the customer that the pipe may need replacing, they opted to leave it for now but at least they can budget for it. It always a tricky one because you don't won't to replace something for no reason but sometimes there is no other option

Just saw the comments about Yorkshire fittings and i would say that they are 'premium' fittings. Years ago when stuff was specified for any NHS job or council or university it was always Yorkshire fittings with brass munsuns or 2 piece clips. Tackled some 3" ones once. They are a completely different beast to a normal Yorkshire fiitting.
@PlumbLikeTomАй бұрын

@locien182Ай бұрын
flux has worn it through. why my old teacher always said "clean ur pipes and make them shinny like u using brasso then u dont get call backs" my original thought was corrosion from cement but looks like its flux dmg as its gone green and oxidised.

Out of curiosity, you mentioned you "only have solder ring couplers". I just used a bunch on a DIY job as they made the whole thing much less intimidating, but... are they bad? Or just a bit less reliable than end-feed soldering?
@hsjshdhsjshsh958Ай бұрын
IMO they're more reliable as they have the ideal amount of solder and where it's needed, they're just a bit more expensive and look different
@dennisphoenix1Ай бұрын
The pre soldered fittings are more expensive and plumbers are cheap skates . End feed fittings are as easy as pre soldered . With end feed you know you have the whole fitting hot enough to melt the solder all round by applying the heat to one side and solder to the other. Pre soldered can melt where the flame is applied but not the other side giving a poor joint and leaks .
@PlumbLikeTomАй бұрын
There is nothing wrong with them, but they are more expensive, thanks for watching

Jobs like this are time and material, I was on site around an hour and there was less than £10 in material, one thing I would say it's not just the material you see, there is flux, solder, blue roll, cutting blades as well, I know you don't charge them individually on every job, but they still get used up and need replacing. Once you have your hourly rate, it's just add that to the materials and you have your price
