Gurio is a friend and customer of mine, known him for 20+ years. It is nearly impossible to understand him on the phone, as he rambles and gets on a tangent every two minutes, lol! Last time he visited, he called up Don Shipley on the phone just so I could hear them reminisce about Gurio being on the cover of Soldier of Fortune. Gurio is one of the most caring and generous friends I have ever had and is 100% legit. He keeps trying to get me to retire and ride motorcycles with him in Florida, lol!

After we graduated high school in 1969, Paul was drafted in 1970 into the U.S Army even though he wasn't a citizen & immediately stationed in Vietnam for a tour of combat duty. Being a year younger I enlisted in the Air Force in Jan 1971, and couldn't have asked for better assignments. First in the Cascade Mountains of Oregon where I started a family, two years in the Azores where I lived off base with my family, and finally on the Oregon coast where we lived in base housing. Uhhh, I was being sarcastic. Shipley was talking with someone that sounded a little scattered. I talk with people like this all the time. They are incapable of carrying on a conversation because they can't, won't or lack the social ability to LISTEN so they tromp over anyone trying to interview them, giving disjointed and incomplete answers to only partially asked questions that they don't fully understand, along with a helping of irrelevant information. The situation is only exacerbated when they are speaking on the telephone. Mr. Vincenti sounds like he is a little forgetful and perhaps hard of hearing, and a rambling talker, which isn't uncommon for people in their 70s who suddenly feel like they've made a connection. Also, a lot of people who have spoken English as a second language for decades can suddenly start to struggle a bit with it past a certain age, further adding to the communication problem. Chief Shipley could have exercised more patience in teasing out the information required...but then as he mentions, perhaps it really was a long weekend and he was just tired himself. He did get a bit more respectful after he confirmed Mr. Vicenti's bona fides.

I admittedly clicked on Shipley's video automatically without reading the title. Former bud/s dud here and I lived in L'Italia for several years... Just listening to him; based on a few knowledgably tid-bits I was convinced he was legit immediately. Thank you Shipley for, not only taking the time, but rationalizing a bunch of different variables and being human. I've ran into fake Seals and I've ran into real ones... It's actually easy to recognize legitimacy if you've been involved and hard for others (even with the internet). Thank you for what you do. I'm a bit different; I make the bad ones aware that it's bad Juju to claim something you are not and know nothing about. I have not met a person yet that doesn't catch my hint or I would have sent their name in. Some people just wish they are looked upon by people as more than they are... it's human nature... I wished I was Aquaman but before that my parents told me I can be anything I want to be and I wanted to be a dolphin. As I got older and reality set in Aquaman and Navy SEAL was still on the table. I'm thankful I at least attempted but I hope people understand - find a way to be you and give credit to those that put in the work and endured the pain to become something you idolize. Attempt to carry those characteristics you want people to recognize in you that are similar to your perfect you. Please do not tarnish their sacrifices by stealing their valor you did not earn. It's called respect. And disrespect is bad karma looking straight at you. LOL, buon karma persone!

I appreciate the time you put into this important task of weeding out the phony liars. When you find someone who is lying you call them out. I’ve often wondered what percentage of checks you run are real vs. fake?

Dude I'm so glad that you verified this guy I'm so glad that we finally have some positive feedback! Also not sure if you are reading this message my Italian brother but God bless you for your service and thank you so much for everything! There can be no greater honor than being the most elite fighter in the world and getting the recognition you deserve so greatly. Thank you Don for everything you do this was one of my favorite videos I know it was not the easiest communication for you but it shows you have a great deal of patience and an incredible amount of respect for what you do even though we didn't need this video to prove that obviously! Bravo Zulu gentleman

I can see why the guy is having trouble remembering some of the details, it was 50 freaking years ago! Like many people here, I also never knew non-US Citizens could join the Armed Forces and retire, never having become a Citizen. Love his story and appreciate his service!

I’m a British citizen and went into the US Army in 2009. Ex wife and my kids are American and I had my green card and joined. Was another two guys from England in basic at fort lenordwood. One guy from South Korea get his citizenship just after basic. Was another guy from India who was to be a medic. I was 88M as couldn’t do any mos that needed security clearance. Other guy from England he already had his US citizenship and he was able to be signals as he got his security clearance etc. we live back in the UK now but it was a great experience.

About time you got a real one - nice ending. Thanks for you're service, Don. I don't just mean while in the service, but more what you and Dianne do to protect the hard earned honor of those who served from self-serving liars and thieves. Nobody's forcing you guys to do all this work but here you are, year after year just doing it. I know at times it must seem like fighting a swarm of bees with a peashooter, but it is appreciated, especially by those of us who had family serve and die. My hat's off to you, sir.

He did say he saw how freaking hard they worked....keep finding these creeps please....you rock!!! PS your stance even says"SEAL"!!!!

This is so nice. For once. Its so cool to see the satisfaction on Dons face when he verifies this man is the real deal. A SEAL brother. Thanks for verifying him Don and for putting him in touch with his buddies. Respect. Don is a Legend.

That guy must be a great human. The first part of the conversation Don was annoyed and majorly disrespectful to a man that was a SEAL, and served OUR country, and never got annoyed or offended. Unlike you know who!

I remember that Soldier of Fortune mag I always assumed it was Robert DeNiro from The Deer Hunter movie. Crazy. That magazine is still laying around somewhere in my dads house where I grew up. Wow what a blast from the past that was. Edit: I was born in 1981 so I was young. When you’re 6-7yrs old that dude looks just like Robert freakin DeNiro.
