Love seeing creators used older gear and proving it can still get the job done, specially for stills. It is not all about the latest and greatest.

My GX8s and GF6 did get some use on holiday a week or so ago, I had lost some of the inertia to use them for a few years with various well known factors discouraging our mobility. It is an utter pleasure to take the cameras out, almost an excuse to slow down and gaze at nature. I live amongst the Norfolk Broads so it seems criminal not to use the cameras. With 64GB SD cards being so inexpensive and with a few spare batteries you can take 1000s of pictures at virtually no cost, a massive "development" compared to old school chemical photography. Play with settings, experiment, and see what works, the embedded EXIF data keeps track for you. It really is a strange hobby, many used cameras have just a few hundred shutter activations on them. We all need to get ourselves out and about and hit that shutter button. Thank you for your positivity.

The Lumix GX-85 (USA) and the GX-9 are great! Appears to be the end of the road for the line. Panasonic products are solid built. At least in my experience over the years, you cannot beat Panasonic reliability. Nature photography is relaxing and rewarding. I have taken a deep dive into street photography, but along the way, when the view presents itself, the landscapes and seascapes still grab the eye, and a snap or two. A little quite mixed in the busy life, is always great. Finding the street introduced me to more of the human feel - the human touch and joy, as another element of nature --- it too is nature photography. Looking for faces, recording story, and captures of lights, shadows and interesting geometry, is so addicting. A good addiction -- love of people. In a split second, we can capture a high, a low, the cold and the warmth of life --- the greatest tool. On nature walks, one looks to please the eye, but may also be mindful of how all God's creatures, big and small carry-about the their daily life. It too is observation time, and getting your mind into that space and out of that of your own concerns and worries. Take care, Loren Schwiderski

Yeah -- outdoors is my "jam" -- local parks, old ruins (well, in my area that means farmsteads from the 19th century), creeks/streams. Relieves a lot of stress. Sligjht mis-speak -- the G*X*85/80 was the follow-on for the GX7 -- not the G80/G85 -- that was the "SLR" style model (I have a G85 -- love it). But yes -- the model numbers are like alphabet soup!!!! Thanks Brian!

GX80/85 is smaller and lighter with an equally small viewfinder but the big advantage is the new soft shutter which is a pleasure to use and barely hear. Mine is being borrowed by my son in law at the moment and for a fortnight who is attending the wedding of a friend in India. Fairly upmarket wedding apparently and held over about three days. Should be really colourful and although this is his first M4/3 experience he should get lovely pictures. He has the 11-32 kit and Olympus 45mm f1.8 which should cover all his needs with the minimal kit. He also has his smartphone of course.

Hi Brian. One of my favorite combos is the opposite in brands, an OM Systems body and a 25mm Panasonic lens. As many have said limits often simplify life and maximize creativity. Nice video.

Yes. I have the Panasonic 25mm f1.7 on my OM-5 and it is a great combo.

And that 25mm pops up again. Waiting patiently for my 25 and 45mm 1.8 primes to arrive after finding a good deal. It’ll be a good project to use just those two lenses for the next 12 months with an aim to make my first photo book. I’m liking the way it’s forcing you to adapt to the situation at the bridge. I’m thinking this will add more interest and actually help develop my skills.

Brian, if you are looking to develop a new style/format for your channel, this video might be a genus to think about. It is really interesting when you show the same shat with f1.8 CF f4.0: then you talk about it. It is really instructive.

Good instructive video thanks. I bought the GX7 from MPB a couple of years ago for less than £200 in vg con. Its been really good using it and l thought about trading in for the GX8 with MPB. They wanted £200 but l thought was costly for a 2nd hand upgrade so kept the camera l love. Then l bought an olympus pen e-pl5 for just over £100 from Mpb lovely camera but the stabiliser faulty so sent back. So keeping my beloved GX7 for now with a variety of lens and adapter for use with pentax lens. Cheers

Now come on Brian you as a pro photographer know that you could certainly get both ends of the bridge in by holding the camera in portrait mode and taking a series of images left to right or right to left if you prefer and matching them up later in Photoshop or Lightroom to make a single image. In fact it's probably a technique that mostly does away with the need for wide angle lens, certainly in the short term.

Am sure that you would know, but I was thinking that the Olympus 45mm f1.8 would be great for that camera.
@ThatMicro43Guy
@ThatMicro43Guy Жыл бұрын
It would not be my ideal recommendation even though I love the lens, I’d prefer the 42.5mm f1.7 lumix as it has power OIS which will be better than the cameras 2 axis IBIS, the Olympus would rely purely on the cameras IBIS
@petermcginty3636

@@ThatMicro43Guy Thanks for the comment. The OM-5 is my first camera so, obviously, the iBIS has spoilt me. I just assumed that a tiny lens like the 45 f1.8 did not need its own stabilisation. I even hand hold a Panasonic 100-300mm on my OM-5 without the lens stabilisation and the images are fine.

@@petermcginty3636 it will work superbly on your OM5 but not so well on the GX7

Depends what you are wanting to use it for. My favourite setup would be a camera such as this and the 12-60 or the 14-140mm both not too big but super range to take most shots and reasonably fast at f3.5-5.6. If you want really compact to fit into the pocket then the little 12-32mm pancake zoom (which this video was shot on) all these lenses have IS which is better than the 2 axis ibis in the GX7
