THANKYOU SIR @HCVERMA Photoelectric emission is the phenomena by which a good number of substances, chiefly metals, emit electrons under the influence of radiation such as γ rays, X-rays, ultraviolet and even visible light. This effect was discovered by Heinrich Hertz in 1887 while working with resonance electrical circuits. A year later, Hallwachs, Elster and Geitel investigated the phenomenon with a simple experimental arrangement. In the absence of any radiation, the discharging takes place slowly whereas when there is radiation falling on it, the discharging takes place early. These experiments also study the relationship between photoelectric current, the intensity of incident radiation, velocity and the kinetic energy of the photoelectrons, and their dependence on the wavelength of incident radiation used.

The thin plates have both positive charges on them, hence are repulsing each other. After uv comes on the aluminium cover above, the photoelectrons are emitted from it and neutralise the positive charged plates. 😐
@dhruvbaghel4663 жыл бұрын
Why positively charged?? The plastic bottle is negatively charged and hence by induction the foils are too negatively charged..if the uv light illuminated on the foil the rate of discharging of the foil is more and the negative charge decrease due to photo current..
@hcverma29283 жыл бұрын
Foils are negatively charged. But for that the bottle should be positively charged.
@dhruvbaghel4663 жыл бұрын
@@hcverma2928 sir may be i made a mistake there. I was too confused about the charges appear on the bottle but I've verified (google) whether on rubbing plastic,it gains electron or positive charge.. The answers thier were plastic gains electron on rubbing over a cloth.. Edit: I've once again thought about the mechanism of Charging of electroscope by induction and now I'm clear sir thank you.. the plastic bottle must be positive charge and hence due to induction, negative charge appears on the top. Your finger provide a path for electrons to neutralize the positive charge (present on foil). Now after removing the plastic bottle the overall net charge is negative on the electroscope.!! Sorry sir, i imagined charging by conduction initially..
