I can only speak for myself, but I gave this video a thumbs up for the quality of instruction. It has thumbs down because it is on KZbin .... I once saw the most touching video of a family overcoming grief and pain and it had hundreds of thumbs down. People may have thumbed it down because they don't like the song or your hat. No need to read into it at all.

people disliked it bcs they didnt simply like it. they actually loved it. took a break from guitar for over 3 years in the middle of learning. just recently restarted but i was feeling disaster because I forgot almost everything of what i learnt. i was almost on verge of giving up. Justin, I always wondered if you intentionally said funny, euphemisms like "The G that I F," or if it just came out as you are focused on instructing. Interesting to know it is the latter, but do you usually know in the instant you say something like that that it was funny, or do you see it as you edit the video more often? Either way, those are reasons to keep singing on these videos!

Justin is of the net's best teachers of guitar, who also really seems to like to have you hear him sing. He is the guitar instructor equivalent of going to a church worship service where you really love the preacher's sermons, instruction and style; but to get to that, you know you may have to force yourself to sit through the preacher poorly belting out a few songs ... But the fact is, it is worth listening to the singing to hear the sermon.

Trent Mason I get what you're saying. (non-confrontational/ just taking) I actually like Justin's voice. Even Bruce Springsteen isn't a great singer, but he's world known - so it's not always about having a perfect voice. I really appreciate the thoroughness of his videos, and how he breaks everything down step-by-step.

If you think that, you probably haven't watched many of his videos. He openly admits that he's not a great singer in like half of them. He straight up apologizes sometimes. As someone who is learning guitar, I need to hear him singing and not just playing the song, because it helps to know what lyrics the chord changes happen on and such. I guess what I'm saying is - Justin don't change anything!

I don't mind you think this but believe me, I'd rather not sing these songs because I'm a reasonable musician and know that my vocals are pretty average at best, rough most of the time. I do notice that they suck even more if I don't try my best! I sing because I think it helps the students see what they're going to play. That's it. There's for sure no ego involved, but if many people feel as you do, then maybe I should stop. Wouldn't be the first time I've though about it...

We are particularly blown away by your Neil Young tutorials as of late. Please keep singing and ignore any comments about it, because it does help and you sing fine anyway.

Justin, I wouldn't change ANYTHING you are doing man. NOT a THING. You disrupted an age-old model of how guitar is taught! And for the better I might add. Changing any of your model because of an inadvertent troll like me would be totally a mistake. Re-reading my comments I sound more jerk-ish than was intended and I would like to apologize for any offense. You know how to get people to learn and I should just keep my mouth shut and watch a pro play. I would like to stand by part of my comment --- I really do think that you are the best teacher on the net and knowing that you sing because it gets the students learning better, well, that pretty much blows apart my entire original premise man! I find that pretty cool indeed. With all that said, my comment is getting likes, so if in some way you read into that that you want to start playing vocal tracks over your playing and instruction, or if you want to buy a vocal processing unit, or change how you do things, that may prove interesting for students. But I think you should stay the course and keep changing the world. I mean that. I feel humbled that you are actually writing back and I admire the measured thoughtfulness and lack of ego in your reply and instruction.
