You are an inspiration to me. I will never think of the dirt roads around where I live quite the same ever again. Thank you for the inspirations.

Always a joy to see a new video from you pop up. In our area I have been photographing the changes. Our town seem to develop every inch of land they can.

Some beautiful photos of rural Canada. I like to do much the same when I can and I love my Rolleiflex. Great cameras for this sort of thing. Even got the closeup filters with mine.

Beautiful work. And such a good point about modernization steamrolling over tradition, dirt roads in this case. Really compelling subject for photographing and awesome final images. Really love the one at 7:53

You put out some of the best videos on KZbin. Your photographs are beautiful and meaningful. Please tell whomever is handling the video that they're doing a bang-up job, too! That last shot, of the power lines, is very beautiful and evoked some strong emotion in me. Fabulous! ❤

Hi Jess, I've just shot a roll with my new to me, old beater TLR, a 1959 Minolta Autocord. Mine is a mess, only 1/125 -1/500 shutter speeds working however, the pictures are fantastic and a TLR is so much fun! Anyway, thanks for your update and your dirt road photos are great as always! Regards from a fellow Canadian in Japan.

Nice! Good to see you going out and taking some photos! Its finally spring weather in Stockholm and if the warm weather holds on we will get sakura season in maybe 1.5-2 week! Also last week a friend traveled to Stockholm and I invited him to my kitchen and gave him a cup of coffee and some good conversations. I also used my rolleicord iii and took 3 environmental portrait frames with a roll of hp5!

It feels good to be able to get out! Spring started with a bang here, which I am very grateful for, usually we just skip from winter right into summer, ha ha! Hope you're able to get out and do some photography too! Coffee and good conversations are always wonderful to have! Thanks for watching! ❤️

I love the idea of a dirt road series. I’m doing a Roadside series also but didn’t think to make it only dirt or side roads. Love the the Rollie and a 2.8 at that. I have a Yashica 124G and an even older EM model. Neither one has a meter that I trust but then I grew up with handheld meters so not a biggie.

Love these! You certainly have the groove with your Rolleiflex! The cross is by far my favourite. Sadly I have to go pretty far to find gravel roads here in my part of Ontario.

nice work Jess, really nice results from that camera. I have a Lubitel 2 TLR not the greatest camera ever but I enjoy using it. A year or so back I bought an Aireflex TLR a beautiful looking camera, then life got in the way and I've not had chance to use the thing. Feeling inspired now to dig it out. Thanks for the video regards from NZ

Thanks so much! I was actually thinking about picking up a Lubitel a while ago, they seem like really fun cameras to shoot with! Then I got the Rollei for my birthday, so I think the Lubitel idea is on the backburner for now, ha ha! I do really love shooting on TLR's though, the experience is so special. And I am so happy to hear that my video is inspiring you to dig yours out, that is the best compliment I could get! Thanks for watching! ❤️

@@JessHobbs you're welcome mate. I've been full on at work the last couple of months we got smashed by a cyclone so I've been documenting the devastation for the paper, and uploading to my channel. It's been pretty grim, but things for the majority are getting back to normal. I'm personally needing a break from the news photography I need to head to a beach or climb a hill and slow things down, I was fancying a film shoot now I'm fancying a TLR shoot. BTW avoid the Lubitel after the Rollei it will be let down haha.
@JessHobbs
@JessHobbs Жыл бұрын
@Paul Taylor Photography oh wow, I'd say a nice walk on the beach with a TLR is exactly what you need right now! That's intense, but I'm sure you've been creating some really great work. I will definitely check out your channel, thanks for letting me know you have one! And yeah, I probably won't be buying a Lubitel anytime soon, if ever!
@paultaylorphotography9499
@paultaylorphotography9499 Жыл бұрын
@@JessHobbs haha yeah you certainly don't need the Lubitel stick with that Rollei. Regarding some downtime definitely needed just to shoot something non munted is gonna be nice. As bad a situation as it's been and in places still is I like to think I documented what I saw pretty well, I hope these will become a valued resource in decades to come.

As someone who enjoys going places with limited electricity access, this new legislation in Canada seems like quite the killjoy to something that breeds a great deal of charm for many rural places.

As always an interesting "Jess Hobbs" video. Do you like the Kentmere 400. I actually enjoy all the Kentmere films. However, for Important (to me) projects I use Kodak TMAX 100 or Delta 100. Just love the grain structure of those "non-traditional" grain films. Thanks for sharing the video.

One of my favorite film cameras. I actually "learned" photography on these cameras. You should watch the movie "Finding Vivian Maier". Not only was she an avid user of the Roleiflex, she also did most of her amazing photography in my home town of Chicago...during a time when Chicago was an interesting and safe place to live.

I think you need to plant some hedgerows out there, it looks so desolate 🤔 would cut the wind down by a bit. Youd get much bird life in the hedges too 🐦🦉🐥. Nice vid 😎👌👍.
@JessHobbs
@JessHobbs Жыл бұрын
Ha ha, I would if these were my fields, but I doubt the farmers would appreciate a stranger running around planting stuff! There are less desolate looking fields in the area though, and most do have trees or bushes to cut the wind down. Losing top soil is always a concern out here! There are a lot of farmers that have started adding bluebird houses to the edges of fields, so now they are actually around a lot more. And on our farm, we are very bird-friendly, lots of wild places for them to nest (even sometimes in my cucumber plants, ha ha!). Thanks for watching!

Very nice video & some really good photos.I have tried to like TLRs but they just don't work for me but they sure seem to work for you.I grew up in an area with dirt roads & we use to ride horses on them & all over the country side but that has changed' I have since moved away but I miss the way it used to be.

There is a pronounced graphic to Jess' work which distinguishes itself from the many subjectless photos we see. I think that folks that want to improve their compositions should consider a complementary drawing study. If your view wouldn't work as a sketch, it probably won't work as a photo. Jess has a lot to teach here. Who doesn't like Rolleis?
@JessHobbs
@JessHobbs Жыл бұрын
Omg, thank you so much, I really appreciate this! I've been looking over my images and seeing where I want to go back and work a little more on the compositions as well, there is always room for improvement! Rolleis are just such wonderful cameras, aren't they?! Thanks for watching! ❤️

@JessHobbs
@JessHobbs Жыл бұрын
Oh, I will be going back to capture different angles for sure! The best part about going back over images is thinking about new ways to compose shots, looking for different light at different times of day, and just generally where improvements can be made! And I do think 4x5 will have to come out with me o e of these days! Thanks for watching! ❤️
