Today I went out into the Yorkshire Dales to photograph the red grouse.
The Red Grouse is a bird that likes the hide itself deep in the heather, making it a challenge to photograph them out in the open.
I decided to head out early this morning and get out onto the moors just before sunset, this proved to be a great idea, as I managed to get some wonderful photos of the Red Grouse sitting on the wall as the sun was just rising over the hills.
For much of the day, I decided to just hunker down in the heather and wait for the red grouse to make an appearance, my initial thoughts were that it was going to be a tough day, and be limited to the amount of shots iI would get, but that was not the case, by lunchtime I was all done with plenty of great shots and even a surprise visit from a pair of red kites flying overhead.

Lovely video. What an awesome moor and colours in the sky! You'd think with such a vast area that theose dog walkers would have just kept away from you but I guess you can't reason with stupidity. It happens to me too, sometimes. Keep up the great work.

What a stunning day out Ash. On my bucket list. Huge problem here in Australia is dogs unleashed on wading/shorebird nesting sites and the owners do not give one crap. It's funny how folks react poorly to others being out doing exactly what they are, enjoying themselves. We're a funny lot.

Yeh I know its a shame, some people can not just walk by and leave us to it, they said they had more right to be there than I did, as they come onto the Moores all the time anyway I just left them to it, after she threatened me with her dog saying its a good job the dog was on a lead, she had a big doberman to ☹

@@WildlifePhotographerUK Awful mate. I'd record those interactions and pass onto police as a threat. Otherwise they just continue being entitled assholes. Hope the next one is idiot free

@@WildlifePhotographerUKsome people have crazy logic. So because 'THEY' come on the moors a lot 'THEY' have more rights than others. If the dogs went crazy whilst on a lead, proves they haven't trained it well. I have dogs too, we go on walks a lot. They are always on leads and they do as they were trained. I even feel confident to have them off leads, but they never run off, go crazy and ALWAYS respond to my commands. Any way, some great shots there, seems a lovely place that I will have to go.

Dog walkers and their dogs are a bloody nuisance for us bird watchers……and more particularly for the birds…..

Red kites not good for the grouse. And we don’t get black grouse down here.
