Photography - Light Painting Old Tools - Part 1

I decided to do a fine art light painting of some old tools I had in my shed. Some are in better shape than others, but all in all I thought they made for a nice series of images! Part 2 will show the post-production for the circular saw, and part 3 will show the hand sander.

Were you using an app of some sort to trigger the shutter? Love the depth of the mat around the image. It gives such a nice finish to the image. I'm just starting to dive into competition. Any tutorials you know or have done to describe the mat process? I watched the basic one you did that was just posted on FB, but I love the shadows that make it appear like a real mat. I may be doing some light channel stocking. ;) hee hee

Can you explain setting up the camera, settings.. how you arrived at the exposure you used..

Hey James, generally I use as low of an ISO as possible and an aperture of f/11 or f/16. Beyond that, the exposure for each image is really just something you "feel out". It just takes practice to know when you've shed enough light on the subject and can close the shutter. As you practice more and more, it will become second nature and you won't really think about it anymore :)
