Firstly, thank you for NOT setting up a video camera to film yourself walking around. That is painfully overdone on KZbin; and it seems very silly to me. I love this POV view. This has inspired me to go out and shoot nature for the very first time ever. Although I have always cherished the outdoors, I have never once shot it! I'm visiting my old hometown in the beautiful state of Pennsylvania, United States in a couple weeks. And now, all of the sudden, I'm very excited to go shoot nature while I'm there! Thank you, Tomasz! :)

Tomasz, I loved this video. There are thousands of videos that talk about the “hows” of taking photos, but I love this one for the whys of getting out and noticing the beauty all around us. So many videos are shot in beautiful locations & for many of us photographers makes it feel like there is nothing like that around us at the time & so we must wait until we are able to go someplace “photo worthy.” Your video is such a great reminder that there is beauty all around us if we are paying attention. The format of letting us walk with you & seeing what you saw & shot is great. Thank you!

thank you for taking us on that very meditative photo walk, Tomasz. I am camera, more often with my dog. I find though that for really seeing things beyond the obvious, I need to be alone. Hello Tomasz, I saw your youtube post and realized that this kind of photo walk is very, very similar to my walks. I also have it very easy as I only have to go through the garden gate and then in 200m I'm in the next forest. I often walk very "unintentionally" and then let myself be surprised as to whether something "speaks" to me. I'm always open to surprises with things that I've "seen a thousand times" and then suddenly appear in a special light and want to be photographed. This even works in the (admittedly very large) garden that my wife actively runs. The only thing I decide beforehand is the type of lens. Sometimes it's 35mm, sometimes (like today) it's 50mm or even a zoom. One idea for this kind of walk can also be to focus on a tree that appeals to you and take a kind of "portrait" of it. For me, this perhaps comes from an assignment given by a meditation teacher in a monastery: "Go outside and look for a tree. Then look at it for 30 minutes." If you limit yourself to this, you suddenly notice a lot of things that you wouldn't otherwise notice: Patterns or injuries in the bark, mosses or lichens with interesting color patterns, patterns through the branches in the crown, damage caused by storms or lightning strikes, etc.... That's a little feedback on your meditative contribution. Bernd

Enjoyed! Thank you for the forest experience: we share proximity to woodlands, as ours are not far from our back door in the Taunus hills. Forests are generous hosts, ever giving, but also rewarding ‘getting close to the ground’, especially in the mushroom season when the tree-fungi symbiosis is so evident. Personally, I’d like to see more of your stills, as they’re an insight into your photographic persona, your thoughts, your aims and interests, and give more time to study the detail that attracted YOU in the first place than any fleeting video ever could. It’s why we have coffee table albums of still images, but none of videos. Looking forward to your coming Railway Stations piece as they’re always a rich source of life and movement. Thank you for a ‘new look’ at what we love to do.

I enjoy the video portions of this film more than the still photos. The use of motion - the camera panning to bring in the landscape, the standing trees, the downed trees etc, the photographer walking along the trail or road, and so forth - is much more successful to me in making me feel part of this beautiful environment than the static photos. Fortunately, you have not panned to fast, which can destroy the mood of being in the forest. More, please.

Enjoy your adventure. You ended asking for my photo plans for the weekend: I just heard Mark Denny suggest "find the sweet spot of your lenses". What a great idea! Tomorrow I'll test each aperture stop on each lens. I think I'll learn something significant. I have been too dependent on the sensor and not done anything to determine the actual ability of the lens. Thanks for asking the question. That has changed this from...some day I should.....to now....tomorrow I will run each lens through every aperture. Thanks for the gentle push.

What a pleasing and calm content. I love your approach and method on how you try to catch "the" moment. It's very sublime, and different for each of us. Certainly, you made it inspiring and made me think about how important peace of mind is when being there with a camera, not only in the forest: maybe it actually will be a busy city. A great start, the way you've put this together is excellent with video interspersed with stills and a voice over is very engaging. It is also interesting to compare the video scene with how you have processed your images. You've triggered me to go out and make images and focus. Look forward to future episodes.

P.P.S. as i read some comments, my view is that the video is an interesting part of this presentation, I liked seeing what the environment was that you walk through, and then right there, what you photographed in that spot and how it looks in frame, which is often quite different. That is the inspirational part. Because it shows how on a gloomy sunless day in what at first might seem a pretty uninteresting forest (compared, say, to a New Zealand jungle), you were able to frame very aesthetic pictures.

That is exactly the idea. I think it’s interesting to see how an ordinary scene might translate into a photograph.

Liked it very much. Interesting to see the very subjective moments that triggered you pushing the shutter release. And I also appreciate very much that it was free of gear talk. Looking forward to see how that format will evolve.

I get the impression you don't often walk in woods/forests. I can only recommend more visits. Walking in woods is my favourite place to be. Fortunately I have one close to home which I visit regularly & always with a camera. The more you visit the more you "see" & your photographs develop & become more interesting. The scenery is particularly shifting with weather & times in the day. I would recommend springtime on a bright day either early morning or late afternoon when the sun is low & the shadows & highlights are a joy! If you spot a tree you particularly like try hugging it & whispering how much you appreciate it, It's quite a comforting, calming moment.

An interesting insight into your own photography! I can see what you see - it's nice isnt it! Mine is the beach. There is so much to 'see' :-)

Congratulations on this first video. It was a real inspiration to get out there and get into the zone with an open mind. I am trying to do something similar in the town where I live, photographing the ‘in between’ spaces

Lovely video. As you go forward with this series, I would enjoy hearing the specifics of why you pressed the shutter: composition, lighting, texture, humor, juxtapositions, leading lines, shadows, etc. I would like to hear the connection between the photo and your eye.

Great suggestion, David. I will definitely think about it depending on how I decide to structure my videos. The first phase of this channel will definitely include experimenting with different ideas and formats.
