Well, thats not "near pitch dark" conditions. For human eyes, yes for nvg´s, no. The light polution from the trucks and such is way to strong even for many 100´s of meters. Go into a forest away from any light polution as you can and then test it again.

“There’s no ambient light” has a massive well lite truck stop behind him. That truck stop would illuminate the path NVGs for about a mile. I live in the country wirh zero light at night, when a car starts down my road (almost two miles away) I can see their head lights illuminate the tops of trees and power lines from the second they turn on my road. I run DTNVS filmless tubes and have had a few friends but the photonis tubes and on no moon cloudy nights they can’t see I’m the fields surrounding the property. If I was to sit in the tall grass or stand by the trees 30 feet from them they have a hard time seeing me. Not saying don’t get the photonis if that’s your budget just don’t have unreal expectations. Also you can get thin filmed gen 3 for about the same price...

I appreciate the feedback. I didn't realize light from that far away made a such a huge difference. I'm still trying to locate a zero ambient light area to use this device in, but holy shit there are always lights everywhere I go. I haven't given up though, I'll find a place and make the video. Eventually.

@@solarjinx also going inside your house and covering digital clocks and other small lights around the house is a great way to see how well your tubes will do in a really low light condition. Keep the windows open so some star light can come In (house can get very dark) there are certain corners in my house where my nods pick up on nearly zero photons in the air and get static. A house with the windows open is a good example of low light no stars no moon conditions

@@relentlessamerican9373 question for you when your buddies have the photonis echo and when they couldn’t see at one point because there was no ambient light did using ir light help them see better in those condition or it didn’t help at all. @relentlessamerican93733 жыл бұрын
@@matcha_546 IR is like a flashlight for nods, yes it absolutely helps running ir. But running ir under nods is a lot like running a flashlight with no nods. The Ir will illuminate what’s in front of you and cause shadows in the back ground. I have a lot of tall brush like sticks growing out of the ground around my house. Just running the nods I can see behind the tall stick like things growing out of the ground but running ir will illuminate those sticks and I can’t see anything behind them. I’ve seen gen 3 thin filmed dual tubes selling cheaper than photonis tubes. Primary arms is selling RNVGs (which is a housing made by mod armory) with Elbit gen 3 thin filmed green phous for $5000 and white phous for $5700. Low light innovations is coming out with a new articulating dual tube goggle (articulating means each pod can be moved up and down like DTNVS or PVS31AS) and I believe they are going to try and make it cheap. I have no clue what a photonis pvs14 sells for but compared to what they sell for in dual tubes I’m gonna assume Elbit thin filmed is close to the same price. The thin filmed tech is still good NV. I know NV is expensive but American NV is light years ahead, it’s our tech and always has been tell someone in Congress gave it to our allies and allowed the French (photonis) to start making their own. But we didn’t give them gen 3 tech we only gave them gen2. There is a difference, gen 2 is still expensive and from what I’ve seen this year depending on where you shop it’s more expensive than Elbit systems America some places. Steele industries and primary arms (Steele sells to primary) are selling dual tubes with Elbit for cheaper than I’ve ever seen. Steeele is a good company. Now with NV something that really sucks is how they grade tubes lol, for example you could pay for L3 filmless and think you are buying the best.. and you are to a degree but they grade them differently. 18um has the lost spec standard and blemish standards, 20um is better, then they have 20ua, 22ua and 24us which is aviation grade standards (aviation grade will have low tolerance for black blemishes in the tubes) its always better and cheaper in a sense f you can hand select your tubes. If you flat out just pay for 24ua tubes you will be paying the absolute most. But if you go through someone like Steele, Apollo and some others they charge more of a base number and send you data sheets and pics of tubes they are getting and you can pick super high spec no blem tubes. It is more expensive to do this but it’s also cheaper in a way vs just buying a standard like 20ua or 24ua. Elbit and photonis have differnt graded standards as well. Also a then filmed tube with the same specs as an L3 tube will not be better than the L3. Say you have an Elbit thin filmed with 2400 fom, SNR would be about 33, EBI .06, halo .07 and LG of 62000 and let’s say you have an L3 with 2374 fom, 1.0 EBI, .08 halo, 63000 LG (I’ve never seen an L3 tube with less than 63,000 luminance gain before) the L3 tube will put perform the thin filmed in low light conditions and around a lot of lights. You won’t regret Elbit tubes, that’s not what I’m getting at they are the real deal but don’t be fooled into thinking the data sheets work that way. Steele industries will list out the specs of their tubes and they also sell the Elbit tubes in RNVGs for $5,000 to $5,700 depending on what color phosphor you use. Yes white phous is better and yes it makes a difference. I’d rather have gen 3 thin filmed green phous than gen 2 photonis plus crap with white phous. Russians tubes use photonis and so do the Chinese. They took our technology and sold it to our enemies. I know people in Europe can only get photonis which sucks but in that case get the best you can get your hands on. But if you live in America.. same advise get the best you can get lol

@heyarno Жыл бұрын
@@solarjinx When you look for very dark conditions, this was not ideal. Clouds near a city or bright lit areas, are even brighter than a clear star sky. Especially when the clouds hang low. When you want even darker, you would look for conditions where there is no moon, the next light source is behind the horizon and you have cloud cover. Even darker would be when you go into the woods under those conditions. I think that classifies as level 5 night. Not many tubes can perform under those conditions. So it's a great low light test. I doubt you can record that with a phone though. But your dark adapted eye might still see the little remaining output of the tube under those conditions.

Photonis has virtually better technology in every other aspect apart from its pure gain, they easily outperform L3/Elbit in most other situations apart from absolutely minimal light, the us govt themselves say that generations for night vision have nothing to do with performance and these units are not using technology from gen2 or gen3 so really it’s it’s own thing

The trade off with everything else photonis tubes has to offer is just lower gain due to its design

Sad thing is in the UK we only have GSCI (and some other low-profile manufacturers) which use russian tubes and the option to have Photonis tubes makes my day due to the fact that videos like these show how good they are - especially gen 2+ and gen 3 comparison with the Echo tubes. For the price, I'm definitely going to invest in some echo's as I'll be saving myself somewhere like 6k for virtually same performance.
