Silvi - thank you for putting this out there. I am at the beginning of my journey to be able to make photopoly gravures and this is really helpful information. I am wondering why black ink only? I am curious if you have ever tried using Adobe RGB image 16bit - converted to black & white with an adjustment layer instead of dumping all that color info ( i use it to control contrast and tonal range in digital negatives.) and then just using the advanced black and white printing mode instead of just black ink?

Hello Gina - The black only refers to printing the image on the plate. You need to use the Matt Black ink from your printer without any other colour channels active. The advanced black and white mode for printing is not good as it also adds colour even though you cannot see them. If your printer does not have the Black only printing option, then you can use Quadtone Rip for advanced printing controls. When editing my images via Photoshop, I always adjust my images in Adobe RGB 16 bit with adjustment layers. I hope that explanation helps!
