Pretty sure he was still in shock. It's amazing how our bodies work during such trauma. For some time after, you tend to stay calm and sensible, not feel pain and even cracking jokes like he did. I experienced similar sensations when I had a dog latch onto my finger inside a door letterbox (I'm a postman). He wouldn't let go and ripped it open nicely. The pain only kicked in about 10 minutes later.

I worked as a Paramedic for 10 plus years & sometimes we can become numb to how terrified people can be in emergency situations. Even though it maybe "routine" to you, to thoes experiencing it, it is catastrophic Your expirence really touched my heart. It reminded me how human and vulnerable we really are and how much we all need one another. Your 911 call had me in tears, it was so beautiful that you wanted to call your family and make sure they knew you love them. Your prayer was so heart felt and you could hear the fear in your voice. You are a hell of a "g", John. It takes a certain amount of bravery and pain tolerance to endure such a harrowing 16 minutes like you did. You grabbed your phone and called 911, then calmly talked to the dispatcher as if you had a scratch. You certainly made that man's job a lot easier and you were so worried about your parents, and i respect that.

Oh this is nothing. Even though KZbin tries to be strict about real, explicit gore and violence in videos, there's still plenty of horrific videos. Just yesterday, I watched several videos of First Chechen War combat footage (mainly from the Battle of Grozy). It showed bodies burnt to a crisp; dead and wounded soldiers lying on the ground shortly after getting hit, with severed arms and legs, giant pools of blood, bloody snot bubbles coming out of dying soldiers nostril as he breathes his last breaths; some Chechen fighters getting beaten to death by Russian soldiers; footage from after an ambush on Russian soldiers, with Chechens finishing off the survivors (or making sure they're all dead) - I mean, up close, uncensored video of shooting them in the head point blank, shooting them in the chest about a dozen times, etc. Extremely brutal and horrific stuff. If you look around, you'll find videos on KZbin that are just as bad as something you'd see on Liveleak.

My man's had adrenaline pumping through him like a fucking bull. I bet he was in pain but most of it was masked by the shock he was in. In the videos he's just like, "oh yea it's pretty gross in here NGL. My foots in there and I'm out here but y'know if I don't die from this my mom's gonna kill me." He sounded like he wasn't concerned in the slightest about his foot being gone, just mom's killing him when he saw her.

I heard your 911 call on the Urmaker channel and I was so amazed at how sweet you were. When you asked the operator to pray with you, I lost it. Dude, you are my hero.

John you did so well. I came here after listening to your 911 call. You were so calm but it was heartbreaking to hear you pray thinking you were about to die. I'm a nurse in the UK and you are amazing. I'm so glad you survived and remained calm.

Again Im not the poster (Patrick Clapper) Im his wife. I completely agree he was so heartbreaking to hear. yet so loving to worry about his mom. May I ask if anyone knows. How did his mom handle everything. especially hearing the 911 call

I've come here after hearing your 911 call too. I'm amazed how calm u were on the phone to the dispatcher. Someone linked this video in those comments, I'm glad they did, so interesting to see. I wish you the best, you are such a brace young man.

I was so taken by your 911 call and how calm and polite you were even after being asked so many times to spell 'Smurfit'!! It was infuriating to hear them making you repeat it. I truly think your positive attitude is what got you through this. I wish you all the best in life, John. The true hero in this story is YOU.

I teared up when I listened to the 911 call- it was upsetting but also incredibly sweet. Your concern for your Mom, your interactions with the operators all while dealing with so much trauma and shock. I'm so glad for you (and your mom!) that you lived, and wonder if you ever met the people you spoke to on the phone. I can completely understand having trouble with the pictures and hearing the call. Thank you for sharing.
