Wow! You have no idea how satisfying it is to find a gem like this. 95% of what you find about this topic is incomplete or erroneous information being spread around the web. Thank you.

Thank you so much for taking the time to do this video. This has helped me A LOT, especially the "Convert to Profile" options when soft proofing, because it's similar to playing around with Blending Modes, and I always have lots of fun when I'm toggling through those, lol. You rock, Andrew!

Thanks for some in-depth knowloedge. What is the difference between monitor profile and other profiles? I mean, a monitor profile is what allows me to correctly see the colors and further, the effects of other profiles on my RGB display. What is the relationship between my monitor profile and other profiles?
@DigitaldogNet5 жыл бұрын
The display profile is solely used for previewing data of which itself has a profile. Both profiles are needed for a preview in a color managed application.

I am finding that when I assign a ICC profile with the soft proof selected, it gives me a different color than when I go into the soft proofing section to soft proof - UNLESS i tell it to "preserve RGB numbers". Should we be telling it to preserve RGB or no?
@DigitaldogNet4 жыл бұрын
Assign Profile doesn't change the numbers. It changes the scale (meaning) of the numbers so the color appearance can change. Preserve RGB Numbers is also an Assign Profile command that doesn't change the numbers. And it's kind of useless for most. What it does is show you what that image (those numbers) would look like IF you output them WITHOUT the profile you selected. You'd never do that. So say you have an image in Adobe RGB (1998) and you wanted to see what it would look like printed on an Epson 3880 without using the output profile. That's what Preserver RGB Numbers shows you. It's real ugly! You could also just use the Assign Profile command and pick that Epson profile, you'd see the same ugly preview.

where do i get this color profile test file? Thank you
By the way...when you have to create a photomontage or a photobashing work with images from different sources, the main care you have to think is all the images should have the same original working spaces, right? And the psd final file with all the layers you did work, should have the same working spaces, right?
@DigitaldogNet6 жыл бұрын
Yes, they would all have to end up in the same color space. That's the difference between Preserve Color Appearance (convert) vs. Preserve Color Numbers (don't convert) in terms of the part where I discuss the "Ask When Pasting" options. Maintain the numbers (preserve numbers) colors look wrong. Convert color (Preserve Color Appearance), a conversion takes place so numbers now change but the images 'appear' as they did before conversion. Yes, all layers end up in the same color space; there's actually no other option. Each document in total is ONE color space.
