1. Marquee Tools (M)
Rectangular Marquee Tool: Selects a rectangular or square area.
Elliptical Marquee Tool: Selects an elliptical (oval or circular) area.
Single Row/Column Marquee Tool: Selects a single horizontal or vertical row/column of pixels.
These tools can be accessed by clicking and holding the Marquee Tool icon in the Tools panel.
2. Lasso Tools (L)
Lasso Tool: Allows freehand drawing of a selection. The selection is made by drawing around the area you want to select.
Polygonal Lasso Tool: Selects areas with straight edges by clicking around the selection.
Magnetic Lasso Tool: "Snaps" the selection to the edges of an object as you drag, making it easier to select objects with high contrast against the background.
How to Use Selection Tools:
Activate the Tool: Select a selection tool from the Tools panel.
Make the Selection: Click or drag on your image to create the selection.
Modify the Selection: You can add to, subtract from, or refine your selection using additional options in the top bar.
Apply Edits: Once selected, you can apply edits, such as color changes, resizing, or transformations to just the selected area.
Deselect: To deselect, use Ctrl + D (Windows) or Cmd + D (Mac).
Each of these tools has its strengths, and which one to use depends on the task at hand, the complexity of the selection, and the level of precision you need.
