To make a selection from a quick mask, press "Q"", but other than that, there are no shortcut keys to make selections.

The best way is to save time by making your text into a Smart Object right from the start.

hey mate love this tutorial, I have a question, ive got the latest photoshop and when i loada black and white clipart image and go to channels I get 4 channels rgb, red etc not one channel like you, sometimes i have been able to lift the image off onto another window sometimes I cant help cheers

To see the channel of your clip art, you first need to make a selection of its shape and then save the selection.

I got to about 11:20 and all was going well until then -I made the new layer, named it "outer glow" but I can't select the text channel because I get a message : "warning no pixels are selected" Where did I go wrong? Must I start over? Or is there some way to fix it? I can select the art channel. But I can't select the text channel.
