This is a brilliant step by step tutorial. Not only because of how you created the image, but also a lesson in how to use some of the tools in Photoshop.

Thanks for this - I have looked at quite a few of these but found this the most useful tutorial so far. Lots of these assume you know more Photoshop than you do so its impossible to work out what to do. Your step by step approach was really useful for me and now I have a clear idea about how to work on some of the images in my collection. Thank you so much.

I really like the fact that you removed massive elements of this image because they distracted from your main subject. I’ve done this on a much smaller scale for some of my images and have been concerned that it could be considered as “not the done thing” or that it might somehow be considered as cheating by some. Seeing the improvement it made the image in this video, I’m not going to worry so much about deviating from reality and I’ll consider removing objects that I think are a distraction. Thank very much for sharing these photography tips and tricks.

Ok... so I'm a lil bit confused here Jay.... as to how u got rid of the blogs. on the left and right... Can you explain in detail, how u went about replacing them with the sky colour.... I'm a newbie. Thanks

Great video Jay and super transformation, liked the final look you ended up with. Interesting technique in isolating the sky in order to mask it. Will need to look into that a bit more, as Ive been using contrast and colour masking approaches along with the pen tool on most occasions to create the separation between the sky and the rest of the image.

Aren't selections fun? I use primarily the Pen Tool but next time I'll try the Polygon Selection Tool. I'm sure you've looked at Joel's BW Artisan Pro X Panel for PS allowing further creative selections. Especially like the "Restore" feature. PS I download all your videos in my JC Folder. Thanks for sharing.

Several photographers are creating a plague on the Internet. They seem shy of saying what it really is. They all too often mean monotone artistic photography. In reality it is no more fine than colour. People are entitled to prefer monotone so why not admit it instead of suggesting something it isn't? It certainly isn't better than the richness of colour.
