In Waypoints Mode, under the "Head to:" selection, select "Free" instead of "Consistent with record" or "Consistent with route", and this will allow you to rotate the quad as you wish while it is flying the route.

An old drone pilot from the Dragonflyer days I am new to the DJIP3A. I was really apprehensive to go to F mode but after watching Colin's video I decided to have a go at it. I wanted to try POI. I had the altitude set right but was under minimum for radius. After I figured that out off I went. I was excited to see the orbit work so well. This video was a great, great help to me to get more use out of my P3. Thanks! Ya hooooo!

Colin, Finally a "Really Good Video" that explains how to with the DJI P3P and the new Applications it is capable of. DJI should take note and hire you to make their video's because they leave so much information out of their "supposed" training video's. I was totally unaware of switching from P to F on the switch and that is what controlled the apps or how to get into the apps. I also own a P3 Standard, so now will check to see if the switch on the Standard does the same. I like using the Standard for flight testing before using the Professional. Would much prefer crashing and burning the Standard than the Professional if given a choice. Keep up the EXCELLENT video's.

Great video! Thanks for posting. In regards to follow me mode: I don't have a P3, but I have a Solo. The way Follow Me works with the Solo is, you have to have a device that has GPS. As you walk down the road, the GPS coordinates of your device will be send to you Drone, and the Drone simply follows those coordinates. Like I said, I do not have a P3 but I am pretty sure that it works the same as with the Solo, or any other Drone, for that matter. Having said this. It might work with devices without GPS, but they should at least have WiFi or a cell network, in order to get your location. On the Solo you can have a tablet for your live video feed and another device that the Solo will follow. Pretty cool. However, I initiated a return for my Solo and be getting a P3... : )

+photoshopCAFE yes it is tilted. I have done the calibration process to the gimbal and IMU more than 7 times. It get fixed for few minutes in the flight and then it goes back to the tilted horizon. The only thing I didn't try is to cool the drone in the refrigerator and then perform the calibration process again -- as other suggesting but I am not comfortable with this idea.... yet :)

+chiupo lini what do you think of my plan to use the samsung note 5 and the mini 2 i wrote about above.
@chiupolini
@chiupolini 8 жыл бұрын
+Andrew Reeves Sorry but I have not found what you "wrote above". I am myself using Samsung Note 4. I guess any good Android phone should do the job. But these days I am using also the Carl Zeiss Cinemizer goggle and it is a great improvement as far as flying experience is concerned. For one thing it cuts out the background sun light which prevents you from seeing the details in the mobile phone screen. As far as the Follow Me function is concerned, I do not find it of great use save in the open plain, of which Hong Kong has not got many. The drone has to stay high in order to avoid hitting anything and you yourself kind of got lost from the camera. Further the follow me function is not steady if the speed of the subject is below 20 km/h. The drone tends to hoover and yaw left and right to seek to find the "forward" direction.
@ahreeves
@ahreeves 8 жыл бұрын
+chiupo lini hi there, i was responding originally to your comment: "A wifi only iPad won't work." Here you say the "iPad won't work". In my reply I was suggesting to use the Samsung Note 5's Hotspot feature for allowing a NON-cell, Wi-Fi only, iPad to connect to the internet through the Samsung device, thus allowing the intelligent functions of the dji p3 RC to be used. I was able to get the two (note 5 and iPad) "paired" and tested only the speed not whether it worked with the drone yet. Just wanted your thoughts on: if this joining would work, wouldn't it be great to then just have the cheaper iPad mini then the wi-fi cell combination iPad which we would have to pay for additional internet monthly contract with your phone carriers?

great vid. What if... you tethered a samsung note 5 with the ipad mini 2, wifi only. Would that work? YES... I'm happy to report, mini 2 ipad connects to hot spot on the samsung note 5 and does about 10 mbps and far better upload speed. my wifi here is 120mbps (comcast extreme). I dont get that on the mini unless i'm connected to that modem directly, for this test i connect to the note 5 because on remote location I'll always have my cell. From what i learned through the video you need the note 5 connection to the mini 2 to get the follow-me and advanced features, Right? Oh, BTW, Walmart for the ipad mini 2 for 199. brand new.

I'm sure someone has told you by now but the reason the iPad didn't work for follow me is because it doesn't have a true GPS receiver like any cellular Apple product. You DONT NEED the cell, but those are the only ones that come with the reaL GPS, otherwise you need to buy an adapter for $100 for your non cell iPad version. Great video!

Nice little review there. I haven't tried any of these even though within 3 weeks I've managed to both upgrade to the super long range Itlite Antenna mod, and void my warranty all in one fell swoop. Now that I got that warm/fuzzy that I've at least got a tweaked out low s/nR thick and solid connection I can start spreading my wings with these automated apps, maybe after I spread the gear apart with a retract kit as I find the ascetics much more pleasing and familiar without the ugly gear hanging down, yes even though I realize we can't pan the gimbal, the retract gear was $249 not that long ago and not even offered for the P3P, now it's $70

Great Tutorial!! Very clear and easy to follow. New Phantom 3 pro drone user here. I have just a few questions: 1. Regarding waypoint mode, after recording the flight path, upon initiating the flight should the drone auto pilot back to the exact location and altitude of the first waypoint? My expereinces with this have been inconsitent, I suspect that it's my error, or could it be related to battery strength? Not sure what I am doing wrong here. 2. Is there a way to pre program the gimble movements other than modifying the gimble speed with in the settings menu? For example... I was surveying a construction sight using waypoint mode. I created a direct path between waypoint 1 (set at 15 ft), and waypoint 2 (set at 98 ft). The goal was to have the camera angle slowly pan down as it approached 98 ft. Thank you for your time in advance.

Great video! This has to be your best Phantom video yet. I had quickly tried some of the flight modes the other day, but had so issues understand how they worked, especially how to set way-points, too bad you first have to fly to them first before you can set them, almost seem pointless and for the Phantom Advance being upgraded to Ultra HD for free, I feel a little ripped-off that I spent $359.00 more for the Professional even if it 4K. Happy flying! ;-)

photoshopCAFE From my comparisons watching in 1080 on KZbin, I really dont see any differences in quality. I know KZbin is not the best way to determine which looks better, but it give you some idea if there is a noticeable quality difference the two sensors and I really cant see one.

+Bobster986 You have to see actual footage to compare
@Bobster986
@Bobster986 9 жыл бұрын
photoshopCAFE Absolutely! But the difference from here and comments from pros using it, say the difference is minuscule. I just hope that when 6K or 8K becomes available that DJI also provides a firmware update for Phantom 3 Pro owners, it's only fare.

@Bobster986 9 жыл бұрын
Tom Miller I fly professionally, and 99% of the time the footage is down scaled to 1080p, so I dont think the differences between 2.7K and 4K would have mattered. I hope when 6K becomes available, DJI makes a firmware upgrade for the P3P like they did for the P3A

2 days ago, I tried to have my Phantom 3S following me but it did shortly then it hovered with all red lights. I struggled to get it following me until the drone turned left then turned right and suddently flew away crashing into one of pine trees. I checked my drone to make sure there is no damage, especially a camera gimbal. Everything was good to go. I looked at a footage and noticed an electric bridge on a side of my drone above it. Does the electric bridge caused it interfered? Just wondering.

Great video very helpful! I haven't flown yet just been practicing on the simulator but after watching this I do have two newbie questions for you (or anyone who can answer) 1.) There are 3 different controller flight options ( joystick controls) to pick from which one do you use/ prefer and why? You seem to fly this thing pretty easy so maybe you have this dialed in. 2. When you fly it further away from you do you use the camera on the drone/live video on the iPad to fly it or do you always fly it using line of sight? I know everyone always says only do line of site but it seems like maybe some of you professionals use the live feed/camera on the drone when it's going a bit further. What do you use to fly? Seems to me the further I get I loose what direction is forward and backwards. Sorry for all the noob questions.

+carlosjd23 I use the standard stick configuration. Mainly because you are going to get used to something, so I prefer to be ready to fly any of my other birds or someone else's the same way. No surprises. I always fly LOS, and then use the FPV to frame my shots for photo or video. So I'm flying LOS to set up my shot, but FPV while making a shot (video or photo)

How are you going to demo something that you are not even sure on how it works? Should you have not practiced your presentation a head of recording it? Yes follow me does not work unless your ipad is the gps model or you attach a Bluetooth gps device to it.

What iPad are you using? The iPad Retina doesn't fit. I cannot get follow me mode to work at all. I think because the Samsung Note 9/10 isn't supported.

How do I set each waypoint? Do I tap on the screen itself to set each one? Also when I try to get POI to work I seem to get interference warnings every time. What's the answers?

I was under the impression you did not need a anything other than a Wi Fi tab since there is GPS modules in the transmitter which enables you to mark different home positions.

Great tutorial! Thank you very much for your time and for sharing. I just purchased the P3P and can't wait to get my hands on it. I am sure I will want to do some videos of my own and would like to include the tablet screen in my videos as you have done. Can you tell me how you captured the screen of your tablet?

Thanks for the demo. I'll definitely have to check out your training. The thing I like better about the Iris+ (and Solo I assume) is that it has a map that comes up to create your custom flights. With this one, it appears that you have to actually fly the route to set your waypoints.

The reason Apple devices rock with these and you may know this already, but the IPhones have GPS which is nice for the auto apps, they also are rare birds in that they almost all of not all also have barometers in them, DJIs software then compres the phones info to the aircrafts barometer for improved accuracy in the vertical plane. Most androids beside possibly the almost as expensive and pretty nice are the top shelf Samsung models prolly also have barometers, another reason DJI almost exclusively uses Apple for their own procedures.

Just wanted to ask a more general question about "Go Home" feature. Does the drone come back to the base (even if it moved), or only to the original/fixed GPS point of departure? Is there anything in the settings/features, which would allow to instruct the drone to come to base. Hope it is understood where I am coming from with this question. I think that if you move while flying, you want the "home" to be you and (often) not the original take off point.

+Anatoly B If you have dynamic home point enabled, it will go back to wherever you are. otherwise it will be the point that it got sat lock, ie the green lights began flashing
