I have been studying C3, C4 and photosynthesis for an exam tomorrow for the last three hours. Reading notes, drawing pictures, talking out loud to myself like a nut. At the end of my tether just not grasping the simple pattern or key or whatever it is about C3 and C4, I was about to give up then thought I'd try a visual approach to learning (which I prefer anyway). This video came up and in JUST 6 minutes........I have finally grasped the concepts...OMG...I am so happy and grateful for this amazing video and will be viewing the previous ones. Thank you so much!!!

Great vid!, thank you very much! I've got 1 question if you dont mind: in C4 plants, what prevents O2 molecules from diffusing into the Bundle Sheath cells as well and to disturb the RuBP there??
@garyntownsend95479 жыл бұрын
+Yuval Erik V The bundle sheath cells have very thick cell walls allowing CO2 in and not letting it escape. Also the plant does not bring O2 into the leaf, the O2 will travel out of the leaf leaving very little to enter the bundle sheathe cells in the first place. C4 plants are not 100% efficient, they have about 5% photo-respiration compared to 25% in C3 plants.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us in this phenomenal video. I live in Tucson, Arizona, where the saguaro cacti provide a wonderful example of a CAM photosynthesis plant. And, while I have been familiar with the carbon fixation process at night, I have often wondered how the cacti deal with the excess oxygen produced by photosynthesis during the day if they have all of their stomata closed. Is there an "oxygen fixation" process that helps to store it until night time?

Effectively, the physical structure of the C4 plant enables it to create a CO2-only chamber in which its RuBP can bond with only CO2, and not O2.
