King Bhumibol Adulyadej was the name his mother had intended to give him according to the meaning she wanted him to have. Bhumi means land, Bol means power, so Bhumibol means power of the land. Adulya means incomparable, Dej means power or influence, so Adulyadej means someone who has unparalleled power and influence. His mother once said, "Actually, he name is Bhumibol, which means power of the land. Mother wants he to stay on the ground". Later, King Bhumibol Adulyadej said, "After listening to these words, I thought back to what my mother said, and the intention was that she wanted him to stay down to earth (meaning to act simple) and work for the people". And throughout the 70 years of his reign, he worked hard for the people. He traveled to remote and difficult-to-reach places to develop every area so that the people could live happily.
