The part where you play melodies on different strings is an excellent tip. Thanks!

It's REALLY good (and mostly overlooked) to be able to see shoulder movement as well as the bowing arm / wrist - so thanks for that - it makes a huge difference. I have a tendency to lift my shoulders - a habit I am in the process of breaking - so this really helps. Thanks W

+Will B Thanks Will, I will pass on your feedback to Lauren and I know exactly what you mean about lifting your shoulders, I find it hard not push them too far forward. Anyway, have a great week and I hope your practice is going well, cheers Geoff

Not only a fine musician and a fine instructor, but such a lovely looking young woman. I actually play the cello, not the double bass, but I have learned a lot from her sharing on You Tube. Thank you, Lauren. One of my four adult daughters did play the double bass when she was in high school. Even as an amateur cellist, I find your teaching very helpful. Best wishes in all your endeavors. Gary Silber, Mississippi USA

Lauren, a question for you. I would assume that playing over the finger board for softer passages and closer to the bridge for louder passages is correct. Am I right or wrong to assume this? You are definitely a great bass player and you seem like you would also be a great teacher. The two do not always go hand in hand. Thanks, John Burdick

I have a new cheap double bass. I cannot stop the D & G strings squeaking and harmonizing when in arco. Is it because the strings are cheap? I cannot find answers anywhere.
@DiscoverDoubleBass4 жыл бұрын
It's very hard to say without seeing you play or your bass. It could be the strings, but arco technique is hard and it's very likely to be a technique issue as well.

@@DiscoverDoubleBass as I'm self taught (past grade 3) and have limited mobility, I am researching more and more on technique. I'm glad to hear it's probably me, as that's alot cheaper to work on. Thanks for taking the time to answer. 🙂 much appreciated.!

Hey what kind of strings are you using? I like the tone it's so bright!

I don't want to play with a bow. Plus my strings do not allow it unless I scuff them with sandpaper... So I'm not going to do it and that's my creative decision.. Perhaps sometime in the future.

Is that 'Chartist' you are playing when you demonstrate using diff strings for effect / pop etc? i looked everywhere for that piece, not too familiar w/ Classical Canon , thank you!

It's "Czardas", a Hungarian-style piece best known as a violin solo, but very impressive in transcription for double bass. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cs%C3%A1rd%C3%A1s_(Monti)

Sorry, I forgot to post the link to the video about the strings: kzbin.info/www/bejne/r2WQhWt6g6mWbpY Lauren is using Original Flat Chrome and I'm (Geoff) using Evah Pirazzi Weich, both by Pirastro.
