Lonnie and Connie, I think I speak for every single one of your subscribers when I say "Thank you" for the time and effort you put into making your videos. Among all the bushcrafters on youtube, the one thing that always keeps me coming back to yours is the calm, no-nonsense style that you offer. No loud-mouthed show-offs with more gear than brains, no overly fancy video effects to mask the lack of experience or knowledge, just patient and informative videos with thorough explanations, from start to finish. Take care, and keep 'em coming! Every time a new video from Far North Bushcraft and Survival is posted, I drop everything else and immediately get to watching it :)

It very much has to do with proper form and execution. Most folks really do work much harder performing friction fire than is needed if you understand the best way to go about it.

Far North Bushcraft And Survival I better stop watching and get practicing. I've had good success with a bow drill but always felt like I was working very hard there at the end. Any tips would be very much appreciated. We have a lot of aspen which is what I usually use. Thanks for your help.

The drying cycle is an interesting concept. I can see how it would conserve physical strength over just continuous drilling. There is a channel "The More You Know The Less You Need" run by a Canadian who has truly mastered friction fire in all conditions. He hasn't put a video out lately but he is worth checking out...Thanks Lonnie

Mors is the "Great Canadian Bushcrafter"... no.. the guy I am referring to is a young French-Canadian man from Quebec by the name of Cedric... I have not seen anyone as accomplished at friction fire as Cedric... If you are not used to the French-Canadian accent it may take you a bit of time to get used to it but when you do...be prepared to be amazed

That you still have such a luxuriant beard after blowing on so many embers up close like that must be testament to the depth of your experience! Your average novice must have a few mishaps on the path to learning to pull away just before it flames up.

Well Lonnie, Connie, we appreciate the work you do to bring this vital knowledge to us. This wasn't the most visually compelling vid, but I love that you showed the truth of the adversity created by the wet set, and showed how to get through it - just keep trying. A lot of vids seem like the "instructor" has an eqo and they only show everything going right the first time. Then when chumps (like us) go out, and we consistently fail, we feel all that much hopeless about our skills. Seeing an "instructor" struggling, persevering and overcoming is the real lesson here. Survival isn't a book and a half of skills, it is a book and a half of skills AND a whole lotta perseverance. Thank you for showing the full deal. On an unrelated note, we were shooting a vid the other day, and you guys came up, could we clip a picture of you guys from your videos to put on our vid, giving you guys a shout out? Thanks for your consideration!

Lonnie, you are so creative, I like to watch your video a lot. Infact, sometimes I watch your video over and over again just to get every detail, that you had said. I guess, after watching your demonstrated for making 🔥 fire, I guess I could use it for a backup., or what ever that purpose. Although, I had learned a lot from you, about how to survive in the wild. Of how to find the best material for making fire, and some other use. If you could make fire in any condition, with the knowledge that you had, it could save your life. You also, show us how to build a suitable shelter to keeps warm too. Thanks to you, until then. Bye.
