Lonnie shows some tips and info for staying warm all night when in a lean-to or other open type shelter. Come along with me as I spend the night in my lean-to at 6 degrees above Zero Fahrenheit
Recipe used in video is as follows
Jonnie Lake Beans And Rice
-3.25 cups water ( more may be needed during cooking process)
-1.5 cubes of bullion chicken flavoured
-0.5 cup short grain long cook rice
-0.25 cup pinto beans
-3 tbs chopped dehydrated veggies
-0.5 teaspoon minced dried onions
- one third can diced spam or equivalent bacon
-bayou blend spice or cajun seasoning
Add all ingredients into cooking pot and simmer until done (beans are soft)

you know Lonnie, there are so many yt channels explaining stuff, showing this and that, where you learn a lot surely, and so one... your channel is a mix of that, but the most important thing is that your videos are that kind of videos where you finish to watch it and you just want to take the rucksack , sleeping bag and go outside. and im sure very much people do that ;) i think these are the best kind of videos :) greeting from italy

Absolutely, agreed with Pescho. Also, the amount of work that goes into making these videos, setting up, "acting" (as it were), shooting, editing, rendering, I hope you know it's immensely appreciated, the work you do for us viewers.

+Far North Bushcraft And Survival love your honesty. soo refreshing.. sounds like we have a lot in common. glad to see i'm not the only one who had or has problems with society. you know the saying nice guys finish last, i'm beginning to think that it's true.. but it won't stop me from being who I am.. I guess I may not win the race but hopefully I will finish it knowing I did it with a good heart.

Extremely glad your doing these videos, I believe this sort of thing should be taught as a supplement added onto the school systems. While most see it as novelty these day's I see it as essential, people forget how to survive where dose that leave them worse comes to worse? I LOVE bushcraft and the outdoors, and useful things are what I love to learn and use and speaks to my Norse blood. Thank you for making these and explaining for people to learn from, not many seasoned bushcrafters share their know how with out high costs these day's...I will teach my kids all I know when there old enough to soak it up...piece of mind is what it is :)

Far north. thanks for teaching a grown man how to make a fire. I made one for the first time about a year ago from watching you. Long fires for the win. I made it out of ...maybe peach. It last around 24 hours, a piece was still there. Added a log next to it, and it started itself over. Anyhow, you mean a lot to me brother, and you got me into this way of life. Also, survivor Lilly, I watch you sometimes too. good videos, especially on herbs and plants. I've noticed. So, thank you too. Finally, Lilly, Where I am in Ohio, I don't know if its the hardwoods or what but, yeah, the wood here seems to burn in winter, in this long fire configuration, and they are impervious to rain or snow...pretty much.

Good to see the shelter in action in the snowy season! The trappers used to cache resources (traps, gear, sheet metal wood stoves, some food, axes, knives, tools, matches, cordage, etc), in many places along their lines, including their tiny cabins and shelters. I can imagine them caching dutch ovens in their many camps so they did not have to carry them. Upon arriving and bush camp, they emptied whatever meat and other grub they had into the DO, kindled the fire and walla, instant stew with whatever ingredients were at hand! A few spices, some salt, and preferably some extra fat, and they ate like kings!

I really enjoyed this one. I live vicariously through your videos, until we can get to the place where we can do it ourselves. We’re in the 5th year of our 5 year plan to get to the high lonesome. Somewhere in the northern Rockies... maybe Alaska. In my job, some days I have to spend time (hours) in a freezer that maintains between -10 to -30 degrees. I use a helmet liner also. Mine was made for tank drivers, and it does a great job of keeping my noggin warm. I also use it for cold camping.

There is nothing better than sitting around a fire and enjoying the peace and thinking. I'm sure I would love those beans and rice. I dearly love Spam. I have been eating it since I was a wee fella. Love the hot water bottle trick. I sleep with a thick wool beanie that I can pull down around my ears and the back of my neck. Keeps me very warm while sleeping. What better way to wake up . A beautiful morning, hot beans and rice and a hot cup of coffee. That truly is a great life. Thanks for the video and a great time.

+dalton vickers You are welcome my friend and I agree. I toss and turn a lot in the night and a beany cap wont stay in place on me. I personally need a type hat that wraps under my neck to keep it on and also to keep it from spinning around on my head in the night. I have tried some face masks but they end up twisting and I wake up looking at the inside of the hat over my eyes lol.

Thank you for the video. I lived in Fairbanks a while. Went up there for the job. Drove up there one early February. Rolled my pickup truck, busting all the tires and windows, off the road, down into a ravine, about 50 miles East of Tok. A couple of young men rescued us, my wife, my dog, and myself. The folks of Tok took care of us and got me to work in Fairbanks, early. The temperatures were down to 32 degrees below zero Fahrenheit. The snow was 2-3 feet deep. The best thing about The Alaskan wilderness is the people. They saved our lives. Lonnie, you are of that bunch. I will never forget that. God bless you. If you come down to central Texas, you have a place in my home. Texas
