Just showed this to mum and she was a bit teary watching this. She moved here to Christchurch in 1975 and went back home once in 1981. She told me that growing up in Manono Tai, they were told that it was a ghost from Tonga not Apolima who was trying to steal the water from Manono. Now she’s got me doing research on the ghost 😂 love to my Leiataua family 💛

That's actually a funny story... I think it's something like how the "aitu" from apolima came over and tried to take a water source from manono and like.... I don't know if they had a fight or something😂 my momma said the aitu from manono tickled him😂 But the water that the apolima aitu had in its mouth splattered everywhere and that's where the vaieli (Wells) in manono come from..... You should visit, in my own opinion, Apai is the best out of the 4 villages on the island... SAND and blue skies everywhere, and those guys have their own little separate island called Nuulopa, but they charge people to go there, there's apparently a cave there where bat's stay.... It's not alot but it's home😊💜 There are no dogs allowed, no cars or bikes... Just good old feet😂 There is however a family there who owns dogs but they use the dogs for hunting... Manono is where the methodist church was first established and I think the original church still stands, or I think it is..... Manono uta near a place called fatu is where that story about how the Tongans departed and finally left Samoa, I think Tongans ruled Samoa at one point... It's where that saying "malietoa ua malo tau, ole a ou alu oute le toe sau" It's longer but I can't be fked writing out the whole thing....

Stories state that it was an aitu from Apolima who stole the water, hence why Apolima has a stream and Manono has none.
