I am quite excited to play pre-release this weekend, and play magic for the first time in a long while. Thanks for the videos, they have been a great help for me to prepare and get an idea of what cards to look for. Edit: I hope to play Black/Blue at least once in Limited. :)

Looks like it will be an interesting set. I wonder how often poison will be able to outpace regular damage
@AMageOldAsDirt Жыл бұрын
Looks like only in the golgari deck. There will be times it will be relevant because your opponent has lots of life gain and toxic goes over that, but I think you're only going to be consistently killing with poison in golgari. However, I'm playing two headed giant at the pre-release this weekend, and it looks a lot more relevant there. There are three cards at low rarity that give poison counters to each opponent, which will give two poison to your opponents in 2HG. Unfortunately people actually considered poison's effect on 2HG, unlike commander, so it does take 15 poison to kill. Still seems powerful
@joshhudson9839 Жыл бұрын
To me it looks like your gonna win with damage more often than not. I think GB and UB are the most likely to win with poison for the most part, and GW will occasionally win with poison but not super often. GU might also but that's the one I'm least sure about.

Not a lot of good colorless cards in the set I'm afraid, although if you manage to draft a lot of the 3 myr cards you might have something that could fuel an artifacts themed deck.

I've been playing on sealed simulators and I had quite the opposite impression. Green/white was the most synergistic deck I've built with by far the highest win count. There are a lot of toxic synergies in Both colors and in the signpost and the removal in both green and white deals with pretty much anything very efficiently, even the combat tricks are synergetic.
@Echotracers Жыл бұрын
black white feels bad to me, its more like downside on all your cards unless corrupted then they are ok. Most of the other archetypes feel like balanced cards with extra upside. This set seems rather exciting, hopefully it will reinvigorate things as standard has felt bad to me since forgotten realms has left.
@marcoottina654 Жыл бұрын
IMHO it seems thatan abzan or bant toxic/proliferate would be devastating, even if it might be a bit slow and unstable (blue and black should be a splice)
@altromonte15 Жыл бұрын
I'm not convinced by the orzhov deck: the cards are strong if you have corrupted, but most of them are unplayable if you don't. the signpost is a 4/4 vigilance for 5, extremely low floor. It's a grindy deck but you also want a lot of early game cards to put poison counters so... it seems to want to strike a difficult balance.
@joshhudson9839 Жыл бұрын
I'm really optimistic for WB, GW, UR, GR, and maybe UB as well if it's fairly open. The others I'm not as optimistic on going into it but I can definitely see them working out. UW just looks like it doesn't have a huge amount of support, white seems to have a really involved corrupted gameplan that UW just doesn't seem to care about, RW is in a similar boat they're both artifacts decks that just seem isolated from the rest of the mechanics even the advertised ones in their respective colors. BR similarly looks like its trying to do its own thing and I'm just not sure it has good support, though the sign post is great and I think you'll get some pretty solid RB deck that just have a bunch of those. UG after thinking about it for a while doesn't look like it has a clear identity, my feel of it is it's not sure if it's a poison deck or an oil or what. Finally GB looks really all in on the toxic plan but I'm just not sure the card quality and quantity is there for that to work out consistently. I do think every archetype here looks like it'll be great at least some of the time, I don't think at first blush we're gonna have a repeat of samurais from NEO, I'm just a lot more interested in the firstly mentioned archetypes going into the format than the others but I could definitely see my mind changing a good deal after playing the format a bit.
@AMageOldAsDirt Жыл бұрын
Besides Incisor Glider, WU doesn't really have any corrupted cards it's especially interested in playing. And besides, there are a few toxic artifact creatures at uncommon, and four mite producers at common you can use to activate Incisor Glider. From my first glance of the set, UW looks like the most powerful blue archetype by far. Most of blue's best cards support the artifact plan, and white has the ability to pump out a ton of artifact tokens. In comparison I think UB and UR look really clunky, and their synergies are a bit too tight to work consistently. I'm a bit confused that you think UR is powerful, but BR is weak. I feel like BR is basically the same deck as UR but with better payoffs, and better card quality overall to make up for when you can't get your synergies going. Blue and Red look like the weakest colors in the set, and I can't imagine them working together particularly well. My bet is UR is the worst color pair
@joshhudson9839 Жыл бұрын
@@AMageOldAsDirt I could see myself being off on UR but I'm absolutely not sold on the idea of UW being the best blue archetype. It really doesn't play well with the core white or blue themes being corrupted and proliferate respectively, and there are only 3 synergy cards at low rarity that I like for it excluding the signpost (those being mandible justiciar, unctus's retrofitter, and transplant theorist). The rest of what I assume are the intended payoffs for going UW just look underpowered. Escaped experiment and orthodoxy enforcer look super disappointing,eye of malcator needs you to really get there and outside of 2 very specific cards can only do a thing on offense and even then not on the turn you play it, tamiyo's logbook looks potentially far too slow for the format, and veil of assimilation looks mostly unplayable. If you get enough of the good payoffs I can see the deck getting there for sure, but I feel like the not so good payoffs are just gonna drag the archetype down along with the fairly isolated nature of the deck. Also U and R look like they have a pretty concerted game plan together, whereas BR looks a bit confused to me.

Point of clarification, for those B and R cards that say an effect happens when "a creator or artifact is put into a graveyard from the battlefield", does that include token creatures? You mentioned on Charforger that it would want the token it creates to die so it sounds like tokens do count?
@rippujin1735 Жыл бұрын
Yes. Tokens go into the graveyard before being removed from the game. That’s why a lot of cards like that specify non-token creatures and artifacts.
