I have a been a PTA for 23 years. I found it relatively easy as far as program. Not sure if the the amount of information as changed but it was quite easy for me. It's really a lot of memorization and being able to apply that information.

I’m starting in 2 days and am literally terrified! I did my prerequisites at a different school closer to where I live. My PTA school is an hour away. I worked so hard to get in and wanted it so bad, but now I’m stress paralyzed about getting started, wondering if I can hack it. It’s always more nerve wracking when you want it badly and so much is on the line. I work hard to be an A student and kept a 4.0 GPA but feel that imposter syndrome kicking in. I hear a lot of Med students get that, too. Thanks for your videos! I’m watching them to try to calm my nerves. lol!

Jhony Solis so this depends on what state you live in. I’m going to make a video on it in the future. For the state I live in (Michigan) they just now started requiring you to have continuing education points to be able to get recertified every 2 years. So for Michigan there are ways you can earn points through different activities and you have to get 24 points within 2 years to be able to get recertified. If the state you live in doesn’t require you to have continuing education points then all you have to do is go online to your licensing website and you have to pay for a new license. Then they will send you one in the mail and you will be good to go. I’ll make a video on it so it is not so confusing lol

Also how did you transition from pta school to working as a pta? Was it difficult to find a job? Did you have to relocate? Do you feel your schooling prepared you well for the various everyday work environment as a pta?
@AntonioSanson
@AntonioSanson 6 жыл бұрын
Dee I was fortunate and got a job right after my last clinical, they hired me as like a tech until I took my final exam to get licensed as a pta. It is very important to make a good impression at your clinical rotations and to network with them. I live in like a rural area so my job was like a 45-50 minute drive but I did not relocate. Schooling is like a baseline of knowledge. It’s to give you a basic understanding so you can be safe and adequate in your job, but you definitely learn a ton of new things and get way more experience working in the field.

It depends on what state you’re in. I graduated in FL in 2015, I find it difficult to land a job. That’s why I considered doing travel PT in the state of Texas and NM as a first job. I did 3 years of traveling and settled down to outpatient orthopedics here in Texas because FL sucks although I already have experience in SNF setting in Texas, they still ignoring my application. I decided to settle down in west Texas and don’t come back to FL. Besides, I’m tired of hurricanes anyway😊
@melmar07

Here is the thing. I did 3 years of travel therapy and then settled in outpatient setting and I felt like I miss A LOT of trends in Physical therapy going to outpatient setting. Most of my classmates after graduating went straight to outpatient while me I went to travel PT.

How did you manage work and school? How much did you work? Was your job pretty flexible/understanding of your schooling?
@AntonioSanson
@AntonioSanson 6 жыл бұрын
Dee It was definitely challenging to manage it all, try to find a balance with your schedule and prioritize where you spend your time. You might have to even sacrifice some of your normal things like hanging out with friends. I worked 2-3 days a week, I went to church 2-3 days a week, I took 15-18 credits a semester besides summer which was 10, and I still took time to study and some moments to spend with family and friends. It’s all possible but you will feel overwhelmed at times. My job was very flexible/understanding of going to school and they supported the idea of getting an education.

Hello Antonio! Thank you for your videos. I was wondering if you even can reply me. Thank you in advance for reading this or even anyone. So my question is can you get started in PTA program without any generals? Let just say a fresh graduate in high-school then straight to PTA school? Would you recommend private college vs. Community? (Ofcoarse with your own research about the school). Thank you so much
@Laundrey1
@Laundrey1 Жыл бұрын
I saw that no one has commented so I thought I would. Each PTA program has different prerequisites depending on the state. I know my state required a fine arts credit as one of the prerequisites. You have to take A&P 1 &2 and some other gen Ed courses. If you did dual enrollment in high school then some of those gen Ed courses may already be complete by the time you graduate. Each school has a different set of prerequisites even if they are in the same state. It’s a highly competitive program so I suggest getting as many prerequisites for all the schools you wish to apply to done so you increase your chances of getting in. You need to study hard and make good grades to get in as it’s super competitive. My program gets roughly 60-80 applicants each year and only takes 10-20 of them. Usually the application process goes based on a points system. If you have a certain GPA, what letter grade you made for A&P courses, whether you completed gen Ed classes prior to application, etc. I’m starting my PTA program in 2 days so I can’t comment on the program itself but I could on the prerequisites part so I thought I would answer your question. Happy studies ahead!

I am actually about to change my major to PTA. I have 1 more pre req to go. But I would like tips for the TEAS, when and where to do the mandatory observation, and just the application process in general. My college does a point system so I could apply this year but I am going to wait until next year so I can have the highest points possible so they will be more likely to accept me.
@AntonioSanson
@AntonioSanson 6 жыл бұрын
Thats smart! The TEAS is general information that you need to know for health science fields. I don't personally remember it being extremely difficult or anything like that, if you want you can find study guides online to help you get an idea of what the questions will be like, As far as mandatory observation check with you school's program requirements because it can change depending on the college. Typically though you can observe at physical therapy clinics, hospitals, long-term care facilities (eg, nursing homes), and other healthcare settings in your area to find observation opportunities. Make sure you get a signed paper though by a licensed PT or PTA of the hours you observed for. I hope you get in to the program!!!!! Good Luck!!

Ty Tubbs my advice would be to try and not work quite full time. Now it sounds like the circumstance you are in you don’t have that option. So really focus on your academics and set aside intentional time to study and prepare, listen to podcasts in your car while you drive to make the most out of your time. Maybe when you get to finals take one day off of work to study. Ask teachers for help because they should want to help you succeed. I’m rooting for you man! Hopefully you make it through the program!

I killed my first year of PTA school. But the 2nd part was a bust. There were 35 seats for the 2nd year, we had to apply for the 2nd year. My school had over 100 applicants for the 2nd year of training. I didn't get in and was waitlisted. My 15k student loans kicked in and I had to find a real job. Where I live in Philly it's extremely competitive just to get into the schools. And if you have a 35 seat program with over 100 applicants, the odds are against you. Just saying. If you are young and just starting out try it. If you are a full on adult looking to level up, find something else.

Hey, if I took an introduction class to pta and have around a 69, do you think I will suffer in the program. Anything less than 75 is failing in my school. I study; but, I still struggle. I got in a program; but, I am worried since this one class is so hard. The first semester is 5 classes or 17 hours and I have not been a full-time student for over a decade. Should I turn down my application and work as a rehab tech for a year or so and then reapply? Or, should I find an easier major like dental assistant or pharmacy tech? I met someone who got booted for falling a few points below the 75%. I am super worried. Science is hard for me; but, it is needed for many healthcare programs.

Hashim Abdurrazzaque you do learn manual techniques and massage is a part of that but it’s not really a mandatory thing but it’s really up to what the most effective treatment strategy would be for that patient

Incisione a mano libera you take anatomy and other prerequisites like that before you actually start the program So you don’t need to be accepted into the program to be able to take those classes

Incisione a mano libera yah you are on the right track, If I were you I would talk to a counselor at the college and ask them specifically what you need to do before you apply to the program!

How much did your PTA school cost and was it accredited thru the Association for PT. Was it a trade school or uni/community college?
@AntonioSanson
@AntonioSanson 6 жыл бұрын
thegodson11 the cost of tuition was around $28,000. But after buying books, cpr, lab clothes, licensure test, vaccines, etc, it adds up. The school was accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) The college I started at was a community college but the college I went through the program at was a private college.

@Antonio Sanson I’m currently a SPTA and I’m struggling with patho and kinesiology any advice?
@AntonioSanson
@AntonioSanson 5 жыл бұрын
I can relate to that, patho was a difficult class for me. With kinesiology it helped me to look at flashcards to review the muscles and functions and then I would also quiz myself over them and also do all the movements physically to learn what actions each muscles perform. Patho was a lot of memorization to understand all the diseases but seeing videos on youtube about different pathologies helped me remember more about their effect on the body so I would remember them easier.

What do u think of CAPTA / APTA Antonio? is it a scam?
@AntonioSanson
@AntonioSanson 6 жыл бұрын
Sir Garl Vinland the way the APTA was explained to me was that it helps in creating legislation and helps push for improving physical therapy. Like they helped with getting physical therapy direct access and things like that. And then on their website they offer just a lot of different info to help you out and continuing education courses.

Is it true that only 10-20% of what you learned in PTA school is needed on the field and the remaining 80-90% is learned through experience?? 🤔
@AntonioSanson
@AntonioSanson 6 жыл бұрын
Lili C I don’t know if those exact percentages are accurate but I do believe there is some truth to what you are saying lol. The whole point of the program and licensing exam is to insure that you are at the most basic and safest level to perform therapy services. It’s basically the minimum information you need to learn to be safe and provide basic care to patients. So a lot of your learning comes from on the job experience and continuing education classes after the program is done. And depending on where you work they don’t do things exactly by the books anyways lol. So yah, you learn a lot more through experience and finding people who are more experienced than you to teach you skills.

@AntonioSanson

Sorry, I don't know of any good online programs, Just be sure to make sure it is an accredited program and also know that you will have to do a portion of the program in person for any online program.

Hey, I'm a Licensed PTA in NY, I don't think that you should be scared, because being a PTA is a very fun career. Most PTA's are very satisfied because of the amount of variety that exists in the field (Pediatrics, neurology, sports, skilled nursing, and much more). Hours are very good, and job outlooks are also good. PTA programs can be challenging, because of the vast amount of information that you have to learn in two years, on top of all that be able to demonstrate in lab and clinical settings. Tests in class are generally set up in a practical and "case scenario" manner, so you just have to think a little harder :) Anyway good luck I hope you take the path.

Thank you for your response I just need to have faith but also I just don't want to be a failure. I was in nursing school for the wrong reason and I didn't like it much also I struggled really hard and dropped out but I feel better for doing so. I am truly interested in the PTA program because they sometimes use soft tissue massage to help their patients and I I think I could be a PTA I just hope you don't have to be the smartest.
