I suffered from metabolic syndrome (obesity, high cholesterol, high triglycerides, and high blood sugar). I went whole food plant based no sugar or oil and low salt and I lost 65 pounds, all my conditions greatly improved, my gums stopped bleeding, and erections and energy returned. I used to have an appetite that was never satisfied; whole foods cured it. I no longer use a sleep apnea machine. Finally, the food is cheap-Beans, lentils, sprouted flourless grain bread, rice, oats, potatoes and seasonal apples. Also, I save money by not having to buy pills or visit the Doctor. I am thankful to all the vegans who suffered attacks to reveal the truth to me.

Thomas DeLauer is one of those influencers who attacked the twin study. He doesn't have much of a science education that uses science to trick people into believing that his high-meat, high-fat diet is healthy. He eats a lot of ground beef and had to eat at McDonalds while in Europe to get his daily pound. He believes ground beef is anti-inflammatory because it contains glutamine.

I have had a healthy diet for several years, but regret that I did not start sooner. My old motto as a distance runner was "If the furnace is hot enough, it will burn anything". That is so not true. Michelle Obama's attempt at improving school lunches was met with outright rebellion. She was on the right track, though. We need to start eating healthy foods from birth.

New Study released 08/20/2024. Regularly eating red (beef and pork) and processed meats in particular is associated with a higher risk of TYPE 2 DIABETES, according to an analysis of data from 31 study cohorts published Tuesday in the journal The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology. Researchers analyzed data from nearly 2 million people across 20 countries.

This great to hear and it’s what I expect ……but a request to Dr Chris Gardener …..can you test keto against vegan diet instead of omnivore against vegan ? There is such a claim coming from carnivore/keto vs vegan that their way is superior Although I’d bet vegan is better I’d like to see a study/trial to compare….

Thanks for this video. I'm mostly carnivore in ketosis which has improved my health. I do like learning about other opinions and research. I think the more research the better 🙂 Many people see benefits from a carnivore diet and I would love to see long-term research on carnivore and real keto diets. One issue with LDL-C is that it is only a marker which may or may not be a good predictor of cardiovascular health. There has been some recent research with people with extremely high LDL-C which looked inside their blood vessels for Atherosclerosis and they were plaque free. Thus, if you really want to measure cardiovascular health, the next time, ignore LDL-C and perform a scan of their arteries. It's more expensive, but it's way more useful data.

UK BIOBANK STUDY: Looked at 300 people following a low carbohydrate high fat (keto) diet and compared them to 1200 people on a standard diet. It concluded that the risk of having a heart attack, peripheral artery disease, and stroke was double that of those following the standard diet. Other things to note on a keto diet include: high cholesterol, constipation, and a smelly breath.

@@georgewilson7808 Thanks for your comment. How did they measure the risk for a heart attack? Like I mentioned in my post, did they scan arteries (accurate) or did they use LDL-C (not accurate). If they scanned arteries, I would be very interested in the study and I would even change my diet.

@@fredsmit3481 I think they look at who had heart attacks and who didn't and what they ate. Here is another one: A Harvard study: Association of Animal and Plant Protein Intake With All-Cause and Cause Specific Mortality. Researchers brought in a large group of people and they looked at the protein they ate and who lived and who died. They controlled for the cholesterol and the fat so they could look just at the effect of the protein. Conclusion: Animal protein is always associated with higher cardiovascular mortality. Plant protein was inversely associated with all cause mortality.

Unfortunately, when I was basically happily eating in plant-based diet, my blood sugar went out of control. Definitely not blaming the food, but the fact that my kidneys had already been disrupted, I already had type two and never knew it, and was probably eating bar too many carbs that my body could handle considering the fact that I now had not only type two where I was scoring a 10 on average unlike the 5.2 to 6.7 that I score now and I was already developing kidney disease and was at the end of CKD 2. my diet consisted of multiple vegetables with salad, olive oil, avocado, oil, buckwheat, quinoa, other grains, different types of rice, potatoes, but different varieties, and I did believe in eating the rainbow. I still do. And, I was also eating bread. But as my blood sugar continued to go out of control, no matter how hard I worked at it, I had to go back to eating meets. It calmed everything down. I do eat grass fed organic, I do eat more eggs than anything else and I do eat different types of fish but not much. Better education sooner in life with best suit most people. Pushing for that is more important than beating the dead horse at the other end. At least that’s my opinion. I spent decades trying to educate many about food as I was in a position to do so. But I had to reach the adults first. The ones who were making the food at home and sending the junk food with their children to school be at elementary, middle school or high school. The industries that surround our unnecessarily large, grocery stores, have won the campaign on what is “healthy” in more ways than not with the average American human. Most of my life was eating vegetarian vegan would have you. Most of all because I was never a big fan of meat. I did not mind fish on occasion , my mother was making beans! I had a really adverse effect beans because she used far too many onions with them which really did a number on me! But I also eat “processed” foods now to help me get through everything and one of them is hearts of palm, Rice and hearts of palm pasta. I already use cauliflower in multiple recipes, even if I eat beans. I will pretend that there is actually more beans by having the bits of cauliflower. I have substituted Meat with cauliflower, beans with the different colors of carrots, all this when I’m making chili. If I want to use “Rice” it will be served over cauliflower rice. I make a very good curry, the same way, but of course with different spices and other additives like coconut milk/cream whatever I can find. But, with unhealthy kidneys, it’s really difficult to go totally plant-based at this point. I was with friends one who is ass scientist/nutritionist person, and I did bring all the appropriate plant-based items to our get together and only ate the items I brought just to show her what happens. All of my food was “clean “everything was organic, Ables were not root vegetables or nightshades, and the basis of my particular food was hummus as I had already eaten two salads that day and was sharing this with others so it made it easier. My blood sugar shot up as it usually does when I have anything that is a carbohydrate even though I had just a quarter of a cup to over 100 mg/gL and actually stayed there for well over two hours. Never did go much lower. Although I did not walk immediately after this, we were continually moving just not walking. I find it very difficult to Liada “simple“ plan if there’s an interruption of any kind in your health, which in my case was, I imagine unique and getting strep throat. Every month won’t go into the details, but I had already not been able to recover from the very last strep throat I ever had because I was told I was getting the latest antibiotic, which turned out not to be correct, even though the doctor was “number one “in his field. He was not correct. From there, finally found a doctor after 15 years to find the true “cause“ of my continual , monthly strep throat. Totally associated to exactly what I kept complaining about which had been determined to be “in my head”… Not in my head after all. Thankfully, I found the doctor through another amazing Doctor Who covered both of my situations as I felt that they were associated. He turned out to be a scientist in this area and I am so grateful to this very day although he passed away a good 12 years ago. I am very thankful to him for the quality of life I’ve had since. But, it did come with complications because of not being given the correct information as time went on from the doctors that I did go to regarding my diabetes never telling me I had to let alone kidney disease. No clue. From there, we should’ve been able to , figure it out. That never happened. Grateful for these discussions, but it is truly imperative that people understand that we are each unique individuals, we may not apply all the knowledge that has been gathered through these types of studies, so we need to proceed cautiously to make sure that we are approaching it and the best way possible. Because I do feel if I started off 100% plant base, Especially for someone with my genetic make up, it would have been ideal. I would like for these types of podcasts to reach younger people not just people that are already “their“ so to speak. But younger ones who are learning about food. There’s enough social media out there, now if there was just a way to reach these younger people in a way that helps them to make better decisions. After all, there’s quite a few influencers out there , influencing younger people, certainly there might be some who can help deliver this message to them. Amen! And all the best to all of you for all you do to educate all of us! Thankful.

Walter Kempner's stage 4 kidney patients (this was before dialyses were invented) were put on a very low protein diet of only white rice, fruit juice some added vitamins and sugar to spare their kidneys. With type 2 diabetes i'd stop eating fat so the insulin resistance can be cleared from the cells and glucose delivery can normalize and with poor kidney's i'd go low protein. All that's left is 100% plants.

@@InfiniteQuest86 Thanks for proving my point, but don't take it personally, very few people know what they're talking about when it comes to Nutrition. Btw, if you're going to create a Straw Man, why didn't you choose Tomatoes at only 82 Calories/lb. where it takes 37 lb. = 3,000 Calories or Celery at only 63 Calories/lb. where it takes 48 lb. = 3,000 Calories?

People are not pounding those like they are protein shakes the way you seem to imagine. I'm talking about a balanced whole food, plant based diet -- compared to a whole food omnivore diet. Very specific, and undisputable. You will eat less calories whole food planet based. They just so much less fat which is easy calories.

@@InfiniteQuest86 Yes, I agree that it’s easier to eat more calories on an omnivore diet. I’m NOT taking issue with you on that. It’s when you said, “But not good if you need to maintain or gain weight” and that’s how I thought you were using the Broccoli Straw Man Argument. Btw, I am 70 years old, I have been a Vegan for 38 years, I have been ~98 Raw Vegan for 34 years and I have no problem maintaining my weight and even gaining muscle if I decide to switch from 5 minutes of weights 3 times a week to 10-15 minutes of body weight exercises 3 times a week. In fact, I actually increased my 41 inch chest to a 42 inch chest several years back by doing this and it was while I was on a 30 Day Juice Fast or Juice Feast or Solid Food Vacation as I like to call it. I also see that one of my comments has not shown up, so I guess someone didn’t like it when I added the URL, so I’ll post it again in the next comment below without the URL and you can simply add my name, John Rose, to your search using “” for the title and watch it if you’re interested.
