The x-component of Vb2 = (5.5x9 - 0.85x15xcos85)/5.5 = 8.80 m/s, not 1.43 m/s. The ball's speed after the collision is 9.1 m/s, a slight increase. Since pin's direction is almost perpendicular to the x-axis, this is an almost "missed shot". Thus we expect the ball's speed to barely change.

would you normally include the spin of the ball before and after in your total momentum equation?

Sir, i am afraid you are simplying a bit. You have external forces from the lane. Can you please do the whole problem from release to impact with respect to angular momentum, cg displacement and rg values?

Don't you need to use the magnitude of Vb2 when you're doing the kinetic energy? I get Vb2 = 3.35 [m/s]
