A 70 kg human is standing on a 30 kg diving board with a length of 4 meters. There are two supports for the diving board, one on the end and one 1.5 meters from the end. What are the support forces when the human is 1 meter from the end? What about 3 meters from the end?

Ok, that was an interesting problem.

The 70 kg person at x=3 creates a clockwise torque. (duh!) To counteract this CW torque a downward force at N1 creates a CCW torque. (not so obvious!) These counteracting torques keep the diving board in rotational equilibrium.
