Which alkali is used in prep of ammonia? Calcium hydroxide. Why? Because •it is cheap•it is not deliquescent Which drying agent is used to dry Ammonia? CaO Why? Because it is basic in nature it doesn't react with ammonia. How is ammonia gas collected? By downward displacement of air. Why? •Lighter than air •Highly soluble in water. Why is the ratio of alkali uaed is higher? To compensate the loss of ammonium salt (ammonium chloride)by sublimation. Can we use ammonium nitrate for lab prep of ammonium? No. Why? •it is highly explosive. •decomposes to form N2O. What about Ammonium nitride? No. Why? Decomposes to give Nitrogen N2. Why is the flask tilted in lab prep of ammonia? So that the water vapour formed in the reaction does not trickle back otherwise the heated glass apparatus may break.
