Short summary of this vdo:- PNF has 6 imp neurophysiological principles that are based on the work of renowned physician sir charles sherrington. 1. After discharge ( response that lasts for a particular time after the stimulus is removed depending upon the intensity of that stimulus eg. Detraining effects after stopping gym 2) temporal summation Means sum up of the weak stimulus that are given simultaneously. ( adding up of action potential ) That means Single quick stretch is not going to serve the purpose, instead use repetitive quick stretches that excite the single pre-synaptic neuron to deliver the number of action potential to post synaptic neurons. 3) spatial summation The only difference is that the action potential of different neurons are add up when they r stimulated by the stimulus unlike temporal summation. 4) irradation Spreading up of muscular activity to the surrounding muscle groups. Overflow of stimulus or impulses to the weaker muscles from stronger ones. For example :- if you carry the water bucket, the muscles other than our limb like trunk will also get stimulated (strong ➡️ weak) 5) successive induction When the limit of any muscle to get shortened is reached, the opposite muscle will get stimulated to contract and relax the primer mover 6) reciprocal inhibition Alternative contraction and relaxation of agonist and antagonist to perform a coordinated movement.

When agonist have maximally contracted / shortened then there is no more scope for their further contraction/ shortening and so now the condition becomes favorable for antagonist muscles to contract / shorten😊🙏 This means if the agonist wants to contract again then it must first allow antagonist to contract and then only it will lengthen again to contract again. I hope it is clear now. Do feel Free to discuss further incase of any doubt. Thanks for watching Physioclassroom 😊 Do share our channel videos with your contacts and help us in reaching out to maximum number of people 😊🙏

You cannot contract your biceps without relaxing your triceps and the neurophysiology mechanism that ensures that the antagonist remains relaxed when agonist contracts is known the reciprocal inhibition.
