Labelled line principle is an extension of doctrine of specific nerve energies as given by Muller. It states how a modality of stimulus and location of stimulus are coded in central nervous system. It states that modality specific receptors transfer the information throught a line to a modality specific area. Law of projection is an offshoot of labelled line principle.

Briliant explanation ❤️!but I want to know something you mean that the pathway is that which determine the sensation not the stimulus .so what about muller's law stating that each receptor only give one sensation irrespective to method of stimulus . Please ,clarify that for me One another question :does the projection occur without projection fibers back like reflexes ?if not ,this means that we sense by our brains,isn't it ?
@PhysiologyOpen
@PhysiologyOpen 3 жыл бұрын
All things you mentioned are absolutely correct...mullers law / one receptor one sensation...that’s why if we replace the receptors...stimulus will change but the perception of that stimulus depends where the line ends in the brain..so yes..brain is the one which actually causes perception of the sense

Mam is labelled line principle and muller's doctrine of specific nerve energies same? If not can u please explain muller's doctrine in simple words mam🙏🙏
@PhysiologyOpen
@PhysiologyOpen 2 жыл бұрын
Labelled line principle , modality of sensation depends on the area of the brain which is stimulated. Muller doctrine says , modality of sensation depends on the receptor which is stimulated-for e.g. if pain receptor is stimulated by crush injury, chemical or excessive heat - we sense pain only I can say both are important for sensation- if you replace the receptor - the line will not be stimulated and the signal will not reach the brain If you change the brain area (hypothetical), i dont think we will actually feel the same sensation as that of receptor

Mam Is doctrine of specific nerve energy is same as labelled line principle
@PhysiologyOpen
@PhysiologyOpen Жыл бұрын
Doctrine of specific nerve energies especially talks at receptor level- a particular energy for a particular receptor- I like to think in terms- labelled line principle as an extension of doctrine of specific nerve energies

Mam completely understand ur explanation,but I have a doubt,U said photons can be felt and we can actually see pain( hypothetically).But,There is a thing mentioned in Guyton called Differential sensitivity of receptors,which says rods and cones are highly responsive to light,but unresponsive to other sensations and similarly particular receptors have differential sensitivities for a particular sensation.So according to this,photons can not be felt and pain can not be seen.Please clarify Mam🙏Confused.
@PhysiologyOpen
@PhysiologyOpen 3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely right... if you relook at the question and the the video, you will understand no where i have said that the stimulus for the receptors is different...instead rods placed on hand respond to photons only..however the line is for touch i.e its going to primary sensory cortex...so the sensation percieved will be touch..hence external stimulus photon is percieved as touch...

@@PhysiologyOpen Are rods also on hand?
@PhysiologyOpen

@@ashu07800 Nope: We are taking a hypothetical situation in which we are discussing what will happen to percieved sensation in which we switch the receptors in a labelled line...
