I took a quick test ride on my friend's 2008 Piaggio MP3 400, a 3 wheeled scooter. It's pretty cool actually! Specs listed in video.

I owned a version of this bike for a short period of time. I think it was a 2009 model. I bought it hoping my wife would get the bug but she never did and the bike was sold after a short time. I rode it from the dealer to my home a distance of about 200kms and I rode to my work a couple of times, a round trip of 200kms. It held its own against cars on the road with the power becoming available at the top of the band rather than across the full band as it the case with the Suzuki Burgman 650 (for example). I rarely used the suspension lock except to show off at the lights but I could see how it would be handy for someone worried about holding up a heavy bike - someone who still wanted to ride but was getting a bit older. As for disabled people I guess it would depend on the type of disability. These machines like all three wheel bikes (Spyders and traditional trikes) are classified as motorcycles in Australia (where I live). You need a bike licence, you must do a training course first and you must wear a helmet. Trikes over 650cc are not learner legal. I think if I were considering a three wheel scooter I'd elect for the Gilera 550 (also made by Piaggio) and it is a bit more powerful. I have a Suzuki Burgman 650 (no longer made - only 2wheels) and Can Am Spyder (1000cc and three wheels - two at the front). One negative of the MP3 400 and the early Gilera 500 is the useless screen. It is too small to do anything about keeping wind off the rider and doesn't even provide decent cover to be able to read the instruments when the sun is shining on them.

Interesting insights! Yeah I only got to ride it a few times. It is a neat riding experience and pretty darn enjoyable. Most comfortable bike I've ever ridden, but haven't been on a ton of road bikes. I didn't know any better and left it in it's locked position, storing it that way for my friend. Came out one day and it was leaning pretty hard. LOL I didn't realize at the time you can't just leave it like that and it almost tipped over as the hydraulics slowly released pressure or whatever happens. The most insane part is that I made this vid on whim and wasn't even going to record it, figured it would get a few hundred views. Now it has over 30k which is pretty healthy for my channel. Lots of people are obviously interested in these bikes. I'm not a bike snob at all, I think it's pretty cool. If I'm ever unsure if I think something is cool, I ask my inner 11 year old child.. He approves. 😆✌

The stability lock is useful in dense traffic, but it's fickle and sometimes there is a delay, so it's not a good idea to rely on it.

That’s an older model. Judging by the windshield and handlebars that’s most likely a 2009. Those older ones are notorious for having a steering notch problem. I own a 2016 500cc which has 3 wheeled ABS and traction control. It’s night and day compared to my old 2009 250cc. These bikes only require a regular car license to operate.

Yeah I think he said 2008 or 2009, 400 size. . Anyways this one has really low miles and ran pretty good. He ended up selling last month for more than he bought it for a couple years ago. You need a motorcycle license to ride it in USA, most states anyways.
