Interesting fact about decibels is that they aren't linear but logarithmic. Going from 50dB to 40dB isn't 20% quieter, it's 90% quieter. They ended up making the challenge way harder than they realized. 💀

It's all relative. You have to play quieter if there are multiple players on a part, but no one ever has to play this quietly. And the fact is, professional musicians all play louder (and have more projection) than beginners. They just have a much much louder fortississimo.

As a wind instrument player, I am not so sure about this. Way harder to stay in tune when soft. Vocalist friends of mine tell me the same thing. They get a little perturbed when people get impressed by loud singers, as they say it's more difficult to sing softly and stay in tune.

Brett really has impressive control because this video reminded me of the violin olympics video where he was able to draw out a note as much as he can with a single downbow. I remember being impressed with the longevity and consistency of that note.

This is actually a really good exercise! I'm gonna try and practise it on my trumpet. Man, that'll be SO hard! It's exhausting playing very soft, specially on wind instruments, you need so much support in your diaphram to have enough air to make it sound anything at all, without belting it. I'm gonna put this into my practise-journal from now on. Thanks! >D
