Hi Johnny, I started your blues class but got away from it. Still trying to figure out my learning style. I want to learn how to understand chords to know chord progressions to play by ear and write my own songs.

hey men i wanted to thank you for everything. You turn people without a lot of money, who cannot afford a piano teacher, into true masters. I started playing every day 2 years ago and can already wrap women around my finger xD and thank you for this enormous progress

Very helpful and easy to understand, thank you so much Jonny...By the way, I realize something but I'm not sure if this is applicable. If you have: C, E, G, B, D, F, A which is a Cmaj13 chord... Can you also call this Chord a Dm /Cmaj7?

To easily identify chord extensions, wouldnt it be better for the mind to subtract 7 from it? For example, D9 minus 7 is really D2, C13 minus 7 is really C6 with all its stacked keys?

Very good, for some reason I understand what your saying- it makes sense to me. I play classical piano, so how do I apply this info to understand the music I'm trying to play -------- and why do I need to do that?

1) Why isn't a major triad with a diminished fifth (C-5) in the "triads" section? I don't think this is an uncommon chord (listen to Solty Dog by Procol Harum) 2) Does chord science know chords with diminished third and fifth (double-diminished triad)? (Co3 = C_e ♭♭ _g ♭)

It is a great lesson!! Thank you. Just 1 Question: I didn't understand the last note of Cm13 - the 13th note (or the 6th) on a minor scale is the 'A flat', so why on the Cm13 extention the added last 13th note is the A (without flat). Same misunderstanding I also have with the Cm6 chord (that hasn't been covered here). Commonly the additional note to the Cm is the A and not the A flat as should be according to the minor scale. I will appreciate for any elaboration on this.

A triad has three notes. On a Cm triad you lower the second note not the third note. Why do you call E the third note? Isn't G the third note?
@thesaturnian4934
@thesaturnian4934 3 жыл бұрын
No, the notes are numbered according to the scale and not according to the triad. In the C maj triad you play C + E + G. If you played those notes in the scale of C major they are the 1st, 3rd and 5th notes in the scale. Thus, these major triads when played in that order are called 135 triads. For C minor you would lower the 3rd by a half step from the major 3rd. If you played the C minor scale you would find that this lowered third is the normal third note in that scale.
