Btw I messed up my ending. Also forgive me for the video quality, had the bright idea to record this at 2am on an old notebook. Read the rest of the desc if you want to.
So this idea comes from all the way back to august 2019 when I started learning the piano by myself (I have a musical background, I am a percussionist of about 9 or 10 years now, stopped 5 years between 2014 and 2019 tho). I've always wanted to learn the piano and always kinda wanted to post one or two covers on youtube but I just never had the resolve to learn until 2019.
Now why Dango Daikazoku ? To be simple Clannad change my way of thinking and my view on life. I won't go into details but I've dealt with lots of shits in the past three or four years and I wasn't feeling good mentally at all (this has always been the case kinda but this period was really difficult). To anyone that has watched Clannad, Dango Daikazoku is a special song, really special song, and I'm no exception. The song is so simple yet has so much meaning to anyone that has watched the anime. It's kind of a comfort zone but it's also really really cathartic. And so when I finished the anime, my first thought was that I had to learn this piece on the piano, I had to. This anime taught me to appreciate the present moment and all the little things in life, saved my life basically.
So I searched youtube in the hope of finding a good rendition of the piece, and Kyle Landry's video showed up. Kyle Landry being basically the reason why I fell in love with the piano, I checked it out, and I was astounded once again by his play style. I also checked out Animenz version (well known pianist on youtube), but I prefered Landry's.
I started learning this piece on June 6th, and a month and a couple days later here we are. This is the first arrangement by Kyle Landry that I'm able to play from beginning to end kinda well (I am nowhere near his rendition tho). I'm still perfecting it, there are things that I still don't quite like about how I play it but this one record I am satisfied with (and god damn I had three record sessions of about 3 hours each, out of these only two records made the cut, the other one is unlisted).
If you've read this far thank you, I know this is different than the usual battlefield bullshit. I'll link Kyle Landry's version and his channel below as well as the OG song. If you have the time just check them out.
Lastly, if you haven"t watched Clannad and like anime, just go for it, it's far up in a league of its own, there is no experience like it (Clannad can seem a bit slow but the whole first season is really a lead up to the most important part that is Clannad ~After Story~).
