The tension on the strings is a significant safety factor, increased once the screws are removed from the sound board. if unwilling to loose the strings, a grinder cutting blade takes less than one minute to safely cut them all. Just stay out of the way as the spring off. Just took one apart. Now trying to figure out how to cut the harp. One hour of Saws all time and new blades, has not cut one support section! Grinder will be next, then heat and cold water with sludge hammer assist! Any suggestions, this has been a one person job, to include hauling it up stairs into the truck. 300 Lbs is just over my comfortable lifting weight!!

nice -- but the most important part -- how did u dismantle the sound board?

I don't think I did. I threw it all away and just kept the case

At 1:17 you can see a pin/bolt sticking out vertically. Did you hammer those out from the bottom of the piano? Thanks
@jloney4 жыл бұрын
I see what you are referring to but I honestly do not remember. I don't think so. I'm fairly certain I did not access anything from the bottom. Too heavy.

@@jloney perhaps saying under the piano itself was incorrect. I slowed the video down at a certain point. It looks like it disappears after you go under the part of the piano where the keys were. I can't figure out how to safely remove these bolts which are blocking some side screws that are holding other components into place. Edit: I figured out how to get around it. Turns out it's all much ado about nothing. Thanks for the helpful video.

I've taken apart probably 10 in a year and a drum key on a ratchet or drill still rakes quite a while

i'm curious what you did with the piano parts. I did this to a piano also. I'm looking for creative ideas of what to build with all my piano pieces. Any video footage of what you were able to use the wood for ?

i ready need to make video about that. I made it into a shelving unit in my garage and very happy with it. i'm just embarrassed to show my messy garage

I remodeled mine into a bar. I used a 1/4 inch extension chucked up in a drill to remove the pegs.

The most valuable part of the piano is the spruce soundboard. Sitka spruce is getting very rare.

Just tore up my neighbors abandoned one. Ryobi impact driver with a huge flathead was awesome! Unfortunately my harp’s tuning pegs were in the soundboard wood not the harp. Had to cut the strings.

I'm curious about how heavy the string board was? Is it heavy from the metal bits or is the wood part of it heavier?
@jloney4 жыл бұрын
The metal is cast iron and it is very heavy. Well over 100kg

We have an old piano that no one plays/bangs on any more. You can't give em away. I'll burn it and scrap the sound board. The piano probably weighs around 400 lbs., just a guess. We have two more pianos, smaller ones.

If you remove the screws from the sound board, it could literaly explode and remove fingers, windows, and possible worse.
