To have all of what he is saying explained you only need to remember 2 Ks. Kullak and Kuhlau They both did a book of octave exercises. If I remember correctly the Kullak is best. It teaches the same thing as this video It improved my octave playing greatly.

What is somewhat amusing is that of all his contemporary composers, Godowsky probably used fewer octaves, at least in the left hand, than most others. His harmonic development was just too good for simple octave fill.

His hand seems to be the perfect size for a comfortable octave. I have to stretch a bit more.

At 3:45 he's playing. Did you mean at 2:26? He says "vice versa" and three words which mean something like "...so that I play the lower keys normal".

I think I read that Van Clibirn could span 14. I’m sure Rachmaninoff had a greater span than 12.

Really? You are saying he could reach an octave, plus a seventh??? I have never heard of any pianist with a hand that size.

That forearm movement is one of the most common causes of pianist's injuries. Octaves should be played from the fingers with a relaxed wrist..
