The seventh is important because it leads somewhere. The third, to define the chord and the seventh leads our ears to the resolution. The purpose of “dominant” chords are to resolve our ears somewhere. I love that you talk about the importance of how to voice correctly. I’ve been learning closed voicing and it’s key to make sure you do not cloud the melody line. Therefore we put all other harmonies below the melody line. Voice according to the melody line, that’s why your voicing sounds so good

I am saying that you give the formula of the trick, without going all the way and nailing the proof, which is based on the definition of the tritone. That jump to the trick is like throwing a 12 inch piperinch at the keyboard. I am so happy that I can follow at this level , now I see the tritone come alive at the keyboard. Again, thank you , for making music understandable to all.Much LUV.

So far you are my number one teacher on the internet not because of nothing other than the fact that you are a patient teacher you take time to explain you do not rush. I notice you always explain the terms and definition before you elaborate on a topic. I have been playing the piano for years without any outside help. The internet is my college thanks brother i will be studying music for life it keeps me busy when there is nothing is going and gives me hope. Like i said you are a master in music. Hmm, of the truth sir, ever since i started following you on KZbin & clicking the subcribed botton, i know my piano playing has improved from the level it was to the next level. You made me understand clearly about extended chords how to creare & apply them, some passing chords, reharms, & now getting to understand tritone substitution....., may God bless you & the good works of your hands. A very big thank you to you sir. I can say the way you tutor is very unique sir, & you reveal every truth about piano theory... Keep on the good work sir. I really appreciate you. You are one of the better teachers on YT, but here we have another meandering "tritone simplifed" like on so many channels. It's an improvised one take explanation, and no matter how gifted and blessed you are, no concise explanation of the concept is coming with those two limitations. So maybe it's a teaser. The real thing would get you 600k views, and many more purchases, but would take alot of planning and editing. I learned anyway and you are so pleasant, thank you. You have a bunch of great videos which have really helped me.

Thanks for clarifying that this is not a beginners concept. It's so frustrating for me to constantly see requests to play a lick or movement in another key. If you are unable ti play and transpose in all 12 keys, you're a beginner. Then I get these students and they get frustrated when I make them do the brain-work cause they just want the flair and flash. Haha You explain so clearly. Thanks!

Thanks Warren for another great lesson. I need a clarification on something. If we assume that the F7 is a primary dominant then we are perhaps looking at Bb major as the parent key. If we consider the diatonic chords under the dominant family, we have F7 and Amin7b5 in that family and also these two chords also share A and Eb. Therefore is it possible that B7 which is the tritone sub for F7 can also be substituted for Amin7b5 since they also share the A and Eb notes. I also love the way you kind of spread the notes in a chord when u land on it. It gives some cool flavour can u do a tutorial on that please. Thanks for your kindness.
@PianoLessonwithWarren
@PianoLessonwithWarren 5 жыл бұрын
amos asante theoretical yes, B7 should be able to substitute Am7(b5). However, Am7(b5) is also the “ii” Chord for G minor key, and ii almost always want to resolve V, which would be D7. So without testing this theory on a song we don’t know how it will sound. Good question though 😊👍🏽
