Yes! finally someone else standing up for real musicianship! played for 9 years in band. I wanted to try transpose a song but put it in a different key. just messing with the keyboard I can play by ear but can't read sheet music to play since I'm not a piano player, sax player, but both saxes need fixed so just a keyboard for now, and it's okay to practice on but never would I perform with it.

This is so strange and awesome, I've been going through your classes on the website. And here I sit and are able to transpose before you even showed it on the video, also able to figure out and play all the scales on ear even though if I remember correctly. Music have become so computerized and unnatural these days that transposing has become just another standard for many. I personally don't like to transpose using anything other than my fingers on the keys but at the end of the day I don't think anyone really care how you made the music as long as it sound good to the ear. I guess it really is about who you are as a musician. Good job with this video!

Assuming you are talking about only major keys and their "Relative minor keys, there is no need to memorize anything: 1) No sharps or flats = C Major/A Minor 2) If the key signature has sharps, the last sharp in the signature is Ti of the major key... F# is Ti in the key of G major, Re in the key of E minor. C# is Ti in the key of D major, Re in the key of B minor. G# is Ti in the key of A major, Re in the key of F# minor. D# is Ti in the key of E major, Re in the key of C# minor.. A# is Ti in the key of B major, Re in the key of G# minor. 3) If the key signature has flats, the last flat in the signature is Fa of the major key. Bb is Fa in the key of F major, Le in the key of D minor. Eb is Fa in the key of Bb major, Le in the key of G minor. Ab is Fa in the key of Eb major, Le in the key of C minor. Db is Fa in the key of Ab major, Le in the key of F minor. Gb is Fa in the key of Db major, Le in the key of Bb minor. Cb is Fa in the key of Gb major, Le in the key of Eb minor. Such things need to be STUDIED like music, not memorized like computer data... Do you see the value of really knowing your scales? Solfege in particular? piano-ology.com/course-outline/scales/ BTW, lots of people get jazzed about the circle of fifths... I never use it, because it never helped me play better. The only reason to learn the circle of fifths is that it might be on a music theory test.

I got turned on to Solfege by the Taylor Fuentes KZbin channel he replied in english the Solfege term. Is there something inherent in the pronunciation of doe ray me that derives a scale of increasing pitch? Or I must memorize the pitch for sol do tee me, from the piano keys or your website . Why not just use the numbers one to eight to match the sung pitch to the numbers rather than the doe ray mee ? What is the significance of the doe ray me recitation

I don't hear or feel any inherent significance of the particular solfege syllables, but perhaps other do. I would be curious to hear what others have to say. Thanks and peace..

I like this video. This is just what Jesus taught me years ago when I started to serve him. He instantly gave me the ability to change keys. But I can only do the keys of C, D, ,E flat, F, G easily. I don't think I ever needed any other keys.

after playing for 9 years on sax I can play anything by ear on the keyboard, but I usually try to just figure out the chord progressions/scale, although I wouldn't even be able to tell you what actual scale I was in until I started to actually think about it, and just putting something on and playing a quick run through the first time, always a couple wrong notes, also as I try to make up my own harmonies/playing along to melody etc. I was getting so sick and tired of seeing all these master classes about how you can be this and that, like no go learn the scales and how to play a real instrument lol.

Same knowledge and skill set... gotta know your scales inside and out... encoding them deeply by sound, visio-spatial layout on your instrument, notation, solfege, scale degrees, ear training. I, too, am a trained engineer and competitive chess player... Whatever you do, please do not fall into the trap of seeing music as a math problem. Music as math is an obstacle, not a stepping stone to musical mastery. All the the best to you on your musical journey, Antonio.

To go from C to D# you do add 3 'half steps' to all notes, and you must know what a half step is, I assume you know your major and minor chords, people should learn the way the feel most comfortable with, if the end result is the same there is no right or wrong way?
