You are the most enthusiastic, most irresistibly charming, and most cheerful music teacher on KZbin. And the way you break things down to make them so much simpler is astounding. Most teachers I've come into contact with give you tiny bits of information at a time and they seem to be trying to make it more confusing... and they never come back and put the little bits of information they've given you together so it's up to you to connect the dots. Thank you nice lady

the most valuable advice I can give as someone who struggled to sight read for ages is to play! the more you read the easier it gets and the quicker you spot the patterns and ideas discussed in this video. you'll build up a bank of mental patterns that appear in each style and you'll learn to not only recognise them but to play them without thought. these tips are really useful but the best way to get the most out of them is to keep reading. good luck!

Great video! It’s definitely “a skill” that you need to develop and reach automaticity. It’s not enough to simply “know” these things. I knew how to read music for two years, I knew about intervals, but I never tried to sightread. I always studied and analyzed the piece before attempting to play it. This year I entered a music school and I had to learn to sightread for our sightreading exams. It took me 5 months of frequent sightreading sessions to put these concepts into practice. But I’m so happy with the outcome. I can sight read simple pieces now! Like Grade 1 or something! But it’s a breakthrough for me, because I couldn’t do that before! I could see the notes, understand the intervals, but playing even a simple piece straight away was next to impossible!

Thanks! I've been working on studying and recognising notes on a music sheet and naming it literally on the music sheet, e.g. C4, E4, A3.... etc, before I actually play the notes on the keyboard. Now I can mix what I'm doing with your "cheat codes" to make it even easier to sight read! However, I have also learnt that some left hand/right hand combinations may be written on the same bass clef as in Hanon's practice sheets! Took me a while to figure that out!

I just started reading notes today. I am truly a newbie, but I like my method better than the mnemonics that everyone else uses. I have two sets like every one else for space and then lines. LINES: [F]inal line [D]awning line (It is rising to sunrise) Middle [B] [G]oing up one line above the first line [E]ntering the treble clef SPACES: [E]nding space [[C]losest to top space [A]dvancing to top (It is going up one from the bottom space) [F]irst space on treble clef I guess my whole point is that it is better to know that the notes by looking at that immediately rather than going through a whole list. However, I totally agree that knowing relative positions is very valuable. So, I totally agree with Lisa.

Thank you again for your great piano lesson videos. 🎹🎼🎵

@mmakrzem3 жыл бұрын
@@jaleenmorris9221 Yes, but if you watch a little earlier at 14:20 the same note was played with the pinking and the hand didn't move! So sometimes you need to know to move the hand, and other times you know to leave the hand where it is, and just use the finger that is above the note. That is the part that I need practice on as I don't know when to identify when to move my hand, and when it is okay to leave it where it is.

Use flash cards and a lot of practice..and count the notes that go on lines and/or spaces after the A above the treble notes leger. It's what I do. With practice you'll recognize them without counting spaces and lines. I also write the names of the notes above the leger lines before I try to play them. As practice goes and you get better you won't need to do it so much. Hope it helps. You have to study and analyze each hand separately before putting them together and make notes on the sheet music that'll help you.

Hello @Pianote lady.I like these videos not only because they are "material" teaching about piano and other instruments derived from it but also because you explain well and are also funny/ have charisma. One thing i would like to know since i dont think i have seen it explained in any of this channel's videos and it is about how to write your own sheets.What i mean about that is how do you write them on paper so you could recognize for example if it's a third C and a fifth G or something further away? How do you write on paper so afterwards when you wanna play the song writen you know with which note to start?

Thank you very much for your valuable lesson! I took piano lessons when I was about 11 years old, but my piano instructor was not a patient person- and made me very nervous- and that caused me to make mistakes. My son had the same problem with his violin instructor. So sad that this seems to be a problem that many people face.
