LESSON SUMMARY
What's the bluesiest scale of all time? If you think it’s the blues scale, think again. Sure, the traditional minor blues scale is hip, and it’s certainly a great starting point. However, there are 3 additional notes commonly used in blues piano soloing that are missing from the blues scale. So if you want to get a professional blues piano sound, then today’s Quick Tip on The Mixo-Blues Scale for Piano-The Complete Guide is just for you!

Just want to say thanks for the free blues classes you offered lately. The two backing tracks are really helping me to keep time while practicing. The slower track is actually harder and demands real focus to keep proper time. I like to go through a variety of left hand patterns using the tracks. Then a session or two with right hand licks before combining both hands. It’s hard to get tired while playing with the backing tracks because it’s lots of fun. Thanks again!

This basically comes down to "play almost all the notes in a way that sounds good" which is actually pretty sound advice.

Nobody. And I mean NOBODY gets more out of these lessons than I do. Why ? Because everything Jonny does is always slightly over my head, - just outside of my ability.... Until I watch the video again, and then again, - and sometimes a 4th time. But then I get it !!! It is a learning experience far beyond that of public school, or weekly piano lessons..... and the neighbors agree. I just wish they'd get off my lawn while I'm inside practicing !! Thank you Jonny, YOU ROCK !! and now so do I.

I kind of think of it as adding a major pentatonic on top of the blues scale for any key. It's weird, as this is one of those things I kind of figured out as a kid playing around and jamming to records. The piano player was always throwing in major seconds, thirds, and sixths, not just playing straight up blues scale notes. (Though it did depend on the song and its vibe. This was especially in upbeat New Orleans-style blues.) And playing around with that minor and major third is pretty important, too (like sliding from the Eb to the E nat in the key of C).

Dear Johnny first of all thank you so much for your fantastic youtube channel! It is extremly usefull and rich. I have a question and I'd be glad to have your video tutorial on the following topic: I love the piano considered as a percussive instrument ( beyond its normal uses off course ) and I can't find many materials about this issue. I mean how to develope many techniques concerning the piano accompainment in the field of funky and ethnic music ( for example the interactiion between left and right hand playing 16 beats in a funky prgression ). Something like this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eonHdWRnZ9uNmK8 or this :kzbin.info/www/bejne/hKuoZZurlLyssMk I've already seen your previous tutorials about funky piano and I would be happy to follow more by you. Sorry for my english ( I'm italian and my english is really bad but I hope you understood the same ). Thnks a lot! Paolo Sturmann

I was doing fine until you had me learn the mixo-blues scale, then you seemed to leave that lesson behind to pursue the 'grip' stuff. I am sure there was a connection, but I didn't understand it. Not a complaint, just an observation from a guy who appreciates your lessons.
