when she sent the call i was expecting her to send for help while sending somekind of request for 20 years of child care payment for the lack of being around thier sons life a one Jack Crusher who lets be honest we all know is leading off the final episode of TNG 'All good things' were in the future picard married beverly then they split up but it was never mentioned about a child...... however you can see in picards face he knows who the lad is as if to see that moment every man gets when they realise they had a love child but never knew about them. also how very wrath of khan of the show runner......... kirk and his scientist ex wife having a child but he never knew about him however i like how kirk in star trek III manned up and tried to be a dad and how he lost his shit on the klingon empire after the death of his son david.

How fortunate we (I think we are about the same age) were to grow up in an era when millionsof us experienced television together. So many of us watched Elaine get thrown out by the Soup Nazi, Doug Ross save the little boy trapped in the storm drain, or Picard warn us that "Resistance is Futile." We used to blame so many ills on television, but in retrospect television actually once acted as a great unifier.

If I had to say one negative thing about PS3, it’s that it’s more SH NuTrek and not Star Trek. However… this is what STD should have started out as if they wanted to pull the fans aboard their new direction of alt licensed Star Trek. Instead it took them 13 seasons, and some of those seasons were so short that calling them seasons is not just generous but deceptive. I will say this however, I have not seen anyone berate PS3 for wokeness or preaching ‘THE MESSAGE’. We can wait till closer to the next election cycle for that. That’s when the usual suspects will probably return and turn Trek into their soap box. Matalas… does allow Secret Hideouts ongoing competition with Classic Trek to get some nasty shots in, a highlight being turning the Enterprise D model into a product to sell and saying no one likes the fat one. Boy are the execs going to get letters from professional victims for that one. In the end PS3 has something few NuTrek shows have. One cook in the kitchen telling everyone want he wants to make. Previous seasons feel like several cooks ran the staff ragged making different dishes that didn’t complement each other. PS3 has craft… but until they return to the Classic Licence PS3 can never be Star Trek. Just Nu Trek that rattles it’s keys using member berries. But at least this time we have a Manny Coto figure who knows how to make that work.

Low lighting levels are much better at hiding wrinkles, age spots and extra pounds since the target audience (of which I’m one) would prefer not to feel like they’re looking in a mirror. I’m a big fan of comfort food and leftovers as long as they haven’t been reheated too many times. I haven’t seen this episode yet (I will) but it seems like they’ve given up trying to attract any viewers under the age of 30 (maybe even 40). Most of them are watching Stranger Things instead.

@@artboymoy Better or simpler writing could have prevented the entire thing about leaving her behind/writing her out of the show. (Drinker confirms she doesn't come back) 1) Laris could have been going on ahead of him, Picard sees her off and later on gets Beverly's message. 2) Picard could have gotten Beverly's message, not tell Laris, and tell her he's "going out for cigarettes". Either way, Laris is none the wiser. Having Laris see the message and see that Beverly is in mortal danger should pique the need to help a friend help a friend. Additionally, Laris was involved with the Synth plot in S1. Beverly's message sounds dire, and it seems that big happenings follow Picard around like an angry cloud, more than likely something bad is bound to happen. Having Laris along can also provide some levity to the script: the new girlfriend meets the ex; the TNG crew seeing Picard with a (relatively) younger woman "Picard, you ol' horndog!" They could have had a Steed/Mrs. Peel dynamic. Opportunity missed. I didn't see San Andreas. what are you referring to?

The part that made me cringe is the scene with the commbadge. "Why would anyone send a signal to a more than 20 year old Enterprise D commbadge?" One, it's way more than 20 years old. Two, that design wasn't tied specifically to the D. It was standard Starfleet issue at the time. Three, why the hell did he still have it and why was it it working order? When Starfleet changes their standard issue gear, do they not collect and disable the last generation of it? Other than that, the episode was pretty solid.

7:23 - Here's a fault that's too common these days - If only Riker would told Picard before they came on the ship (or even after), that there's a Chance that 7o9 would disobey, there would have been Tension throughout the scenes on the ship. @@shawncarter7188 Based on what a few other channels who have been..let's call them 'critical' of most of Nu-Trek have said, there is likely almost no involvement for this season from Kurtzman. The showrunner for the season actually wrote for old Trek, and everything they said seems to imply that at the very least, this season will actually be not too bad. I'm just a bit worried this is another Andor like problem. @Nemo-Nova It doesn't matter how good it is. Kurtzman and Secret Hideout should not be rewarded for what they've done. And if they *are* to be rewarded, a couple of critics who like it , one of which who was given "access" (i.e. can't be trusted), and others who aren't die-hard Trek fans, aren't enough. Especially with no confirmation that Kurtzman is out (that's just a rumor). And no offense, but that bit about the writer saying that to the executive producer (show runner) would never, ever happen. Burnett is a shill, I don't trust him. The guy called Eternals a "Triumph" ffs... he was given a sneak peak and who knows what else. The guy has to want to write for Trek again and be involved. I simply don't trust him. He pretends to be a fan but he's more of an insider, and he's always kept his critiques calm, and will randomly turn into 100% shill mode. Kurtzman is still executive producer and shownrunner. Absolutely nothing officially has changed. I won't watch this junk. People are being fooled and I don't understand how. We've had years of this franchise being pissed on, the fans being pissed on, and a few critics is all it takes to get everyone to just forget everything. Not this guy. Enjoy the show, I guess.

I was so surprised that it was actually good that I even might watch this episode a second time. Which never happend with NuTrek so far. Yeah, it might not be as good as the best TNG episodes, but it's very entertaining and you can clearly feel that Terry Matalas loves Star Trek. He put a lot more passion and energy into just one episode than his predecessors did in two whole seasons. Let's hope, Matalas will get more recognition after this. I have a good feeling about this guy. Paramount should let him helm the next trilogy of Star Trek movies. Or if Paramount/CBS don't see what they have, NBC/Universal should hire Matalas for the long planned Battlestar Galactica reboot, so this franchise can finally leave development hell with some dignity. Greetings from Germany :)

Up until I watched EP1 last night, every youtuber that I had seen review the "previews" of episodes 1-6 had good things to say about them (that is to say, they didn't think they sucked compared to the previous seasons) ...so I went into EP1 expecting something notably different than the crap that had been previously aired in prior years. I found it underwhelming. In my opinion, they (still) cut from scene to scene too quickly and often before they establish key points to the story and that makes it hard to follow. The (still) darker-than-dark scenes are killing me. Are they navigating the star by candlelight because in the future their power bill is too high? Maybe some brilliant mind in the future determined that bright light pollutes the vast voids of space (just like the time in TNG when warp drive was destabilizing space in a particular area)? on that same note, the audio is (still) VERY low ...almost like everyone is whispering for dramatic reasons. And of course there's (still) Rafi. At least we only have to put up with 1 horrible character instead of the whole group from previous seasons. ...but i DO hope it gets better.

My interest in Star Trek has been killed by Hollywood over the last decade since the reboot in 2009. I just can't bring myself to care about it anymore, I'd rather hear more about Velma Season 2 as at least it is a new variant of torture, than look at pretty pictures made out of the glue from the horse Hollywood beat to death that was the Star Trek franchise.

Two observations; the first that when Riker examines the residue of the alien killed by the 'pump action phaser' he remakes that what is left is unlike anything he has seen before. The second observation, is that whilst nearly everyone seems to rave about this new series, it seems to me that it still lacks the 'Rodenberry' touch of optimism that made Star Trek what is was.

@@bladeheart667 Yeah it wouldnt work in the world we live in today. It took a year or so but I've come to actually like all the new stuff and the more i watch it over again from time to time I like the newer stuff even more. Its a little more realistic in the way people act in real life kinda like DS9 was and while it was a nice thought and worked back 40 years ago, people today want things to reflect the reality we live in , not some fairy tale ideas and a way of filming and acting that has evolved in every genre over the last almost 30 years since those older show went off the air. If someone actually sits and watches the show without bias and compared it to the old shows they will notice that yes it seems darker but its just more realistic to our reality, it isnt like the old Star trek, well yea it is , we were just used to a story to start and end in one hour and getting a new one every week. now its just one story over the whole season, and as my friends that i got to watch the shows pointed out to me one night , is that its all there the same Dna that made trek , trek . It is just not what we were used to and once that got in the way i think it clouded a lot of fans opinions of the shows unfairly. I just re watched Star Trek Discovery season 1-4 last week again and it really is awesome to have the effects , the sound quality to be movie quality . To finally have big money and production values finally put into my favorite tv and move universe , and yeah they stumbled alot those first 4 seasons but they did improve and hell Strange new worlds felt right back to those older shows with how they did each episode and i like the fact that every show isn't going to be the same type of format time wise and that we now have shows like ANdor was for star wars this year.

Lol great review (I belted out laughing at the albuquerque wal-mart bit). I have to be honest. I wasn't going to watch this. NuTrek has been the abusive boyfriend who always talks you into one more dinner. But, Robert Meyer Burnette talked me into it. I wish I had never seen ST:D seasons 1 & 2, they scarred me and made TNG unwatchable. Your take here was spot on. This felt very TNG+Action and no lights. Gary from Nerdrotic and RMB both have said, within a couple of episodes, you'll feel at home. I'm hopeful. The thing that blows my mind. if they had started ST:P this way. The way that I imagined it would be. They could have had a 3 season show that would have passed the baton to a new crew for a completely new series. I don't understand how all of these "reboots" (Star Wars for example) completely wasted the old cast's ability to legitimize and introduce a new cast/storyline. But, that would have required having people who loved Star Trek for what it was, not what it could do for them. Same with Star Wars. Still, the greatest crime in all of entertainment will be never putting Luke, Solo, Leia, Chewy, C3PO, & R2D2 in a scene. Let them all have a heroic moment for them to legitimize the new cast, not rip them apart to do so. I see that same possibility here in ST:P. But alas, they won't do it. I'm just glad I get one more ride with the Star Trek crew I grew up on.

Does Captain Shaw's character in episode 1, appear to embody the disrespect that Kirkman Trek showed towards classic Trek and its characters?
