This is fantastic. Thank you for offering people an opportunity to have honest, natural reactions to art.

Hat's off to Jerry for his oh-so amicable and knowledgeable style of presentation and interaction. Art needs more Jerry Saltz to help more people love it and appreciate it. Well done New York Magazine ! (And Persol for supporting).

When that guy started playing the bongos to the painting I was shook! This is an amazing video, its really has helped me so much with my essay analysing Picasso's quote "others have seen what is and asked why, i have seen what could be and asked why not"!

I have stood in front of this painting in December 2001 just after 9/11 and just after the death of my father. I carried with me a small album with pictures I took from the World Trade Center. Everywhere people said “ I am sorry about New York”. Near the Reina Sofia is the Atocha Train station that has a lovely Green House. One of the friends I made in Madrid was given my picture album as I left Madrid. In 2004 Atocha and other train station were bombed. I messaged my friend and said “ Sorry about Madrid”.

This is a good , educational , video , however , the cameraperson , or the narrator , should have recognized that , the shiny covering reflections over the master's work is an insult to the creator and the viewer .

Fair critique, thank you!! Will fix in future 💫

Personally I think the warmth and emotion are far more important than a bit of light reflected off the glass (avoidable though that is) in valuating the success of this video. "An insult to the creator".... hardly.... it's an innovative fun way to help people engage with art, showing immense love and respect for a masterpiece in my eyes. Glass (more than) half full.

Mr. Saltz, I seem to have a knack for seeing hidden imagery in famous old master paintings. Have you seen the hidden bull's head in Picasso's Guernica? You spoke about the hidden skull. I have seen it but have you seen the hidden bull's head? It is located in the lower center of the painting, wrapped into the front leg of the horse. When you show the Mona Lisa, I will show you the kitten, the dog's head, the gondola, and all the things that I've discovered hidden in it.

This was so sad, only showing folks who liked it and agreed with the host lol. How about show us folks who think it's fucking weird, strange and just plain ol off-putting? Also, the host is biased, only folks that know facts and have opinions he agrees with get him excited, what an odd concept for a video....

An hour's worth of people essentially telling him it's repugnant is probably what we'd get if the creators of this video were normal and honest, rather than employees of New York Magazine.

The significance really goes away when you realize that this painting was commissioned by the Republican side in the Spanish Civil War and they used it for their own propaganda reasons. Guernica, in actuality was a small thing made big through Picaso's propaganda effort
@yseson_5 жыл бұрын
Bet it wasn't a small thing for the people who lived through it. One moment that probably seemed like eternity in hell, no escape, only panic, the howls of the fearful and dying, the smell of burnt hair and flesh, the earth trembling and shortness of breath. Tomorrow nearly everything and everyone you knew and loved 💔 lies in ruins. A small thing.
