I'm not surprised Dave, er, Dale didn't tell us how to operate the ejector seat, the hidden machine guns or the smoke screen. They're strictly for emergencies only and his life might depend on them one day.

And I thought TV was rubbish on a Saturday evening……… Brilliant, thank you Dale for another great video, so many interesting moves and questions ticked off on how a few bits of the underground work. Thanks also obviously for London Underground allowing them to be published. These and the older videos on how the Bakerloo line moves operate from yrs ago are brilliant to explain how it all works. Look forward to the next one!

Every time I see the Hammersmith Broadway Shopping Centre above Hammersmith Station, I always think of the opening times of Bottom, a highlight of when I visited London in October 2023 was when I rode the Piccadilly Line to visit the Rik Mayall bench. Spent most the day riding on various lines as I was staying at The Fox and Goose Hotel near Hanger Lane Station.

Karl and Milly were lying in bed one night. Carl was falling asleep but Milly was in a romantic mood and wanted to talk. She said, "You used to hold my hand when we were courting." Wearily Karl reached across, held her hand for a second, and rolled over to try to fall asleep. A few moments later she said, "Then you used to kiss me." Mildly irritated, he leaned across, gave her a peck on the cheek and settled back down to sleep. Thirty seconds later she said, "Then you used to bite my neck." Angrily, he threw back the bed clothes and got out of bed. "Where are you going?" she asked. "To the bathroom to get my teeth," he replied.😂😅

You mention rhetorical questions and let me ask one here. You don't have to answer because I appreciate your bosses are probably watching this. I suspect with new rolling stock coming, the old stock is just run on a make do and mend basis - flat wheels, dodgy motors, all cost money to replace and they don't want to spend too much on something which will be out of service in 6 months maybe?

I've been wondering at around 0:44, when you took power the motors suddenly cut out in which you then moved the tbc to Neutral and back to Series. I have seen this in a few other videos over the years and I wonder what would cause it. I would guess it being more commonplace during the peak when passengers would lean against the doors, the doors then shifting which results in you losing your pilot light (doors closed light) and would cut out the motors as a result. Or maybe it can randomly happen sometimes 🤷🏼 Great video to watch as always and a treat seeing the T4 Loop as well
@dalecharmantravels8057
@dalecharmantravels8057 3 ай бұрын
It could be some one leaning against the doors. It could be an arm that holds the door closed could be a little loose. Usually it’s if a motor runs up to fast it can drop out. Causing the loss of door closed visuals

@Shalott63
@Shalott63 3 ай бұрын
Yes, there was an old railway line that ran on a viaduct there - it wasn't an Underground line but part of the London & South Western Railway. It turned sharpish left (if you're going towards central London) just before Hammersmith and then curved round to the right again and linked up with the West London line just north of what is now Olympia. (Sorry if that doesn't mean anything to you, not being a Londoner). It was closed early in the 20th century but they never bothered to remove some of the remains of the viaduct.
@LUAu101
@LUAu101 3 ай бұрын
Shalot is exactly right. The former junction is called Studland Road Junction and the remains of the viaduct are sometimes known by that name. The LSWR built the line to Richmond and it was originally only 2 tracks. These soon became overwhelmed and the 2 tracks were quadrupled (only as far as Turnham Green I believe). However by the time the 4 tracks were completed unfortunately they were pretty much surplus to requirement due to various changes in traffic patterns and what with the war and everything. In time mainline railway companies gave up running over the tracks and it was decided to extend the Piccadilly from Hammersmith, with quadrupling extended from Turnham Green. This is why there's no eastbound Piccadilly platforms at Stamford Brook. The westbound platforms are the original island and with the quadrupling a new platform was added outside the eastbound local. I think at Ravenscourt Park and Turnham Green the original platforms were on the outside of the running lines. The WB local (as it is now) platforms were abandoned and the WB fast (as it is now) platforms were converted to islands I believe I'm right in thinking

They don’t care about the dangers. They cross the live rail to spray the trains at Rayners Lane

As a matter of curiosity, do you see the tube ever becoming driverless? The Copenhagen Metro, for example, is driverless and seems to work well. I know it's a smaller system than the London Underground but it could be the future.

Do you still get lamped off on last trains. Also during busy periods do you approach stations slower and keep eyes open for drunks, like on a Friday Night. Great Videos by the way.

How can you tell if your trains very good and sufficient?

The main thing is no alarms showing. But generally it’s common sense plus experience. You soon know what is right and what isn’t

Thanks for the new video! If you had an opportunity to chose to operate another line of your choosing, what would you choose? Or would you stick with the Pic?

I wanted the northern line originally. I would stay on the pic line now though

QUESTION: why do the Piccadilly line trains have whistle signs when there is no public crossing? who's the whistle for?
@dalecharmantravels8057
@dalecharmantravels8057 3 ай бұрын
It’s to warn any one on the track that a train is coming. They was placed in places with poor visibility. Although in some places that’s no longer the case

As a wheelchair user, I really appreciate the recent step free upgrades. However, on a journey to Kings Cross (my local station), I got some atitude from poeple who were put out by me being THEIR lugage space.

Sadly the world is full of entitled people. No thoughts for others. I think the new trains will have more space for luggage so hopefully not an issue
