That could easily result in hands being removed from the wheel and the car spinning out of control. Or, the person might just crash the car if they really don't want you to get away (they could be reckless, suicidal, mentally insane or under the influence of mind-altering/body-altering substances.) In general, I think it is better to try to call someone first (friend or police) just like Tal did, even if the driver can hear your call. There are clever tactics to cover up an emergency call and instead make it sound like a casual conversation with a friend (or just something less threatening than the police.) Only if everything else fails should you attempt to jump out of a moving car to save yourself. Yes, the best way to get out is to purposefully jump and roll when you hit the ground, but many people have still died while using this escape method. It is in most cases more dangerous to jump than to seek help, have your location tracked or persuade the driver to stop the car.
