u’re fab! i was in the same position as others, with a padlock that i didn’t want to throw away... although i was 100% sure of the combination, it just didn’t work. it was either reset by someone else or the problem came from that it wasn’t locked back in the proper position 🤔 anyway i watched many other vids that didn’t help, but this one did, thank you, u’re a legend and i now have a padlock that’s working again 😊 thank you

I have the same lock but it's only a three wheel combo. I found it very easy to find the gates by pulling the shackle and starting with the first wheel and it pops in the gate and to me it's very noticeable But with that said you taught me something. The lock was given to me by someone at my work and I did not know you could change the combo so thank you for that. Now I can play with it some more :)

HERE'S THE INFORMATION YOU WANTED ON THIS LOCK. Thumbs up great video. I pick and decode locks for fun. I'm always looking for a challenge. DIRECTLY BECAUSE OF YOU I BOUGHT THIS EXACT SAME MASTER LOCK, as featured in your video. I agree it's different, I picked it EXACTLY as you had described. But if you take another look there are a number of other methods that still work such as finding the loosest wheels, not at all difficult. And contrary to your video it does have false Gates, but it's so poorly made,!!! They are there but are rather shallow and ineffective, and simply tensioning the shackle will bring you right to the correct number. It also has features that no other lock has such as that the numbers lock when the shackle is open and easy to use and to operate the CHANGE CODE POSITION. It's so poorly made by MASTER LOCK that all of its weaknesses can be exploited easily and therefore there is no reason to tear it apart. It's one of my favorites to play with. Thanks for listening and for inspiring me to buy this lock. Take care.

The lock (Master with 4 letters) on our shed in which I keep my telescope and accessories would not open, we tried for weeks! Same combo we always use so should have easily opened, but no luck. We sprayed with graphite to see if that was the problem, which helped the tumblers(?) move a bit more easily but still no luck. I googled "how to unlock combination lock" and your video came up, I watched it, and within 20 minutes had it open! (BTW found two letters of the combo had been changed up accidentally - maybe pushed up on lock when opening/closing who knows?) Thank you so much for posting this! Also, read your recommendations for more secure locks and will be getting one of those! :-)

I got mine open while watching this. A real easy way to pick this lock is to pull on the shackle try moving the second one down from the shackle...If it moves freely, move the tumbler closest to the shackle to the next number, and try moving the second tumbler again. Keep doing this till the second tumbler gets hard to move. You just figured out the top number. Now go to the third from the shackle and try moving it until it gets hard to move, you will be figuring out the second tumbler. Repeat until you have them all done. I think I could easily pick this lock in well under a minute. Kinda sad, but fun. Take care.

This method also works on the Master Model No. 643DWD which has letters instead of numbers. Can now unlock it in anywhere from 30 seconds to 3 minutes. It works best if you attach a rubber band to it, and then anchor it to your knee if you're sitting down. This gives you consistent pressure, which makes it a lot quicker to decode. Note: dont even waste your time on the top 2 wheels. you almost have to treat the top 2 and the bottom 2 wheels as a different sets of tumblers. Step 1. Apply a lot of pressure to the padlock. press down on the 3rd wheel so it can't move anywhere, then rotate the 4th (bottom) wheel until you get 2 letters/digits that the wheel moves loosely on. If you can't quite find any that are loose, apply more pressure. If you still can't find any, mix up all the combination wheels and repeat step 1. Sometimes if the top 2 wheels aren't in the right spot, you can get false positives. When you find the 2 letters/digits that move loosely, you'll know. just select one of the two and move on. Step 2. Apply pressure to the 4th wheel now so it can't move. Now again apply pressure to the padlock and rotate the 3rd wheel. This wheel requires a lot of pressure on the padlock. You are again looking for 2 digits/letters that the wheel moves freely between. Select one of the two digits. If you get false positives on this one, or they all have about the same feel, you'll want to mix up the top 2 wheels, and repeat step 2 again. Step 3. Now hold down on the 1st wheel, so it can't move... a lot of times this wheel likes to move around, especially if the bottom 2 wheels are correct. Apply pressure to the padlock, and move the 2nd wheel, sometimes you'll know this one right away, as it may click into place and the padlock may give a little. i've also had it where it was between another set of 2 combinations as well. step 4. Apply pressure to the 2nd wheel so it cant move, This one also likes to move around with the first wheel. Apply pressure to the padlock again, and rotate the 1st wheel, if all goes well, it should pop open. If it didn't open, try shifting one of the bottom wheels over to the other position that was loose. If all else, repeat step 1 and 2. if you still can't get it, just mix up all the combinations and try it again... when you finally start to feel the "loose" areas, you'll know you're on the right track, and it gets easier. i was so confident with this method, i mixed up the combinations several times without looking and decoded it pretty quickly. it requires a lot of consistent pressure on the padlock, why I dont recommend using your finger, because you have to keep getting a better grip, and you might not feel where the wheel goes free.
@warren16638 жыл бұрын
If you don't feel any resistance on the bottom 2 wheels, just move the top wheels over until the bottom wheels are firm. the goal is to make the wheels hard to move, and then the "loose" spots, are where the correct combinations are. the 2nd top wheel usually will click into place, and the top wheel is generally always firm. if you accidentally guess the top wheel correctly, the bottom wheels show little resistance, making it hard to decode. thats why you sometimes have to rotate the top one, until they have resistance again.

I've found an alternative way to decode these, or at least the 643D I just got. Turn each wheel to the position where it wiggles most freely. Do not use any shackle pressure. The detent is solid on every position of the wheel, but the axle the wheel turns around feels loose when it's oriented correctly. The wheel wiggles back and forth in the body of the lock, pivoting around the detent (left of the wheel). I've decoded it a few times now after having blindly set an unknown combination on it. I have no idea if this still works on locks that have more wear on them, as I opened the package on mine just a few hours ago.

many have reported this lock resetting the code by itself from what they set themselves. It happened to me last night and had a go to find its code it reset to. The first two numbers had decreased by 2. The last two numbers had increased by 1. Clearly two pairs of wheels are working together; So if this happens to you, using the video technique not far from the code you originally set it to, should find what new code it set itself to open it fairly easily. I only use it as a practice lock now.
@Potti3145 жыл бұрын
I had this also on other locks that the combo was changed by itself. Burg Wächter is such a candidate. I even heard a discussion in a hardware store where a customer complained that he had to cut open a lock as the given combo was not working anymore. For the master lock you can also apply this technique kzbin.info/www/bejne/n5rRpH6Pm5qAbNU

Maybe try indirect decoding. For every number of wheel #1, quickly spin all other wheels and see the effect. That digit on wheel #1 that causes other wheels to bind is probably the right one. Then continue from that.

If you try it again the first number at least on mine you can feel a good click just after the right number and the second wheel you can feel the shackle move a little and of corse the last number will open it but Mir is only three wheels so yours may act a little differently.

Yes, different locks can behave very different. Also important is the age, older locks loose precision and are easier due to better feedback.

Hi - I found that using one other method that you have shown previously - where you feel for "lose" wheel solved my problem with this lock. But you have to feel really carefully in order to get it correct. Cheat: Stick a long sewing needle (stiff wire, straightened paperclip, etc) down the code change groove. Rotate the top wheel until it drops through the gate. Repeat for the other three. The gates are now aligned (halfway between a digit). Remove the needle and rotate all 4 wheels together until shacke pops.
@CookieTube Жыл бұрын
If doing that, for the 7640 at least, they seem to be aligned on a whole number though. Add +3 to each number and you have the combo.
@SW-hu2wc Жыл бұрын
Thanks, this tip was golden. Also @CookieTube; For the 3217cd you need to subtract -3 from each number to get the combo.

I sort of did the same thing and figured my old lock combo. I remembered it I set it to a stupid word like "fuck" but I couldn't quite remember. Using your vid, I found out it was "dank" and laughed out loud when it opened.

I have this same lock, however the shackle is stuck in the 90 degree position that you use to reset the combination. It turned like this in my gym bag and changed the combination on its own. Should the same tricks in this video work when the shackle is in that position? Been trying for 20 minutes with no luck.

@@scriptguru4669 Alright, thanks for clarification. As a picker I need to be very clear about following the ethics of the lock sport. Hence my comment as I didn't know the circumstances. Nothing against a joke between friends - happy pickings :-)

Master locks are crap, we can agree on that. I'm a noob at picking/decoding, but I think these master locks simply have too much play everywhere, so much even that typical decoding tactics don't work for me. I bought a new one, set a code, couldn't open it on that code and then went down this rabbit hole. I now have no idea anymore how to change the code, but I can open it at random settings that change whenever I close it. I simply move the wheels until the bar is offset maximally (and the wheels wont move anymore). Then it opens -with a bit of bare hand pressure-, but I can't reliably change the code per the instructions anymore. Then when I close it, I have to find a new configuration that opens it. The initially set combination, or the new ones I tried to set (before and after going through this vid) don't work as well as just feeling out the lock and prying it open. Have I simply broken this lock with my bare hands? Have I bought an already broken one? Or is there something new and interesting I should learn before I can finally use this lock as it was designed? I enjoy the art of cracking locks, but I was honestly looking for a lock to keep my kids away from my dangerous tools first. 😇

Not working… i have even cheaper 5$ ABUS 3 digit lock and 6 years im trying to open it and its not opening at all. When i pull up the shackle the first the first disc moves heavy on all numbers and second less heavy but still heavy and last disc is loosely spinning and i get no click on any of the discs at all… I want to open and use it not to break it. So what to do?
