The roll guard on the non saw box side works really well for splitting doubles and blowing crotches apart.

I'm cutting in between Amasa MI and republic MI now. The timber up here just doesn't seem to want to split at the crotch if mother nature hasn't split it already. I've kind of giving up on trying to back feed split. I get what your saying though.
