Yea, a lot of fucked up things happening. But it's important to remember two things. One, that upheaval is often necessary to make positive change. The civil rights movement of the 60's is a perfect example. Can you imagine how much worse it would be had that upheaval never occurred? And two, all eras, generations etc have their own unique struggles. That said, things haven't been so great, but never forget too that hope is eternal.

The clickbait title was pretty genius, I came expecting some bizarre competition of Adam Neely and Jessica fighting over who gets to be your best friend. I'm glad it turned out to much more bizarre and wholesome.
@grumlo14 жыл бұрын
I see this video as Ben's most direct communication to all of us and the experience or desires of an artist to their their audience. "Ben you should have way more friends ['subscribers']! You have 100k friends, that's nice, but you should have more. Actually no, five hundred thousand friends is good, but you should have five MILLION friends and that would be ten times as good and ten times as much friendship!". But is it? What I hear is Ben saying lots of friends are good, viewcounts are good, we all want to be seen. But it's more important to foster closer bonds with real meaning, with people who you are on the same wavelength with, than it is about stats and numbers. Another thing I thought was interesting was the moment when he gets techy with the Reaper music software. This video is the kind of content anyone in the world would enjoy, musician or not. It is so simple and universally charming: fun music, funny characters, cartoon dancing, peeing dogs, etc. "Popular media" you could call it. And then right in the middle of it all, he takes that moment to demonstrate a very narrow, technical demonstration showing techniques and terms that a lot of people would not understand, which are specific and only relevant to to a certain, niche audience: music production nerds. I think that was a deliberate choice, to swerve off the road for a minute or two, as if to say, just because I can please everyone, have lots of friends, and make a piece of work that the greatest number of people would enjoy, it's also fulfilling to take a break, hunker down, and connect deeper with a single friend or person (in this case, the more niche audience). You can sing to a sold-out stadium. And you can sing to a single friend. Finally, the ending sums it up. Ben is on a couch with his good friend. He starts to sing a not-too-great ukulele song about liking the same TV shows as his friend, and that one reason he likes his friend so much is because they like the same things. In other words, there are those people that we are are on the same page with (that wavelength/vibe thing): our shared values, outlook on life, what we cherish. We must love and connect with these special friends in our lives. Ben is on the couch watching TV with his friend, singing in the most simple way about the "TV shows" he likes. The shot is framed dead-center. Ben looks straight ahead. The camera position is presumably where the TV is. He isn't watching TV. He is seeing us. He is on our screen; we are on his. The artist and audience is not an active/passive relationship, but intertwined, both seeing each other, needing each other, and creating the wholeness of creation through it. That's just my opinion of how the video spoke to me.

Yours is the most important bleep that my phone makes. We met a couple times Ben, you probably don't really remember, and each time i was struck. I guess people tend to idealize the people who's art they respect, especially when they live in a different country and speak a different language; But from day one, when i first listened to a Bent Knee song, until now that I am a long time fan, I have been amazed at the humanity that comes through your music and your content, from the most deep and violent to the funny and absurd. Most stuff makes me feel the feelings that the person went through making the thing, yours makes me feel my own feelings, makes me feel alive and kicking. What i was struck by as we met was that there was no artistic pretentiousness, no divide between us, no strange expectation of devotion, simply a human being. And there's nothing more one could, or should, ask for. I imagine you get this kind of stuff a lot. Hope you have fun on your break. Or not, if that's not what you're looking for.
