This is an awesome presentation of things that you learned intuitively and then became aware of. If instructional material was more like this back in the day, we'd be way further ahead by now!

Holy shit, I made a joke of you coming here 7 years ago, and you actually came, so sick! And its very idiosyncratic, MAB talks a lot about NOT moving the fingers.

Even after all these years the “shit” technique always makes me laugh. No other description for it lol 🤘🤘

I've seen a friend do a similar technique to the Shit technique a while back. Like, he moved basically just his thumb and his index, just like you do except not as tight. :P But he learned it in a fancy conservatory and I'm sure it has a boring name there. +Ol Drake

I do that thumb and index movement too when i play. I always thought it was bad, but it has its purposes and its sort of a habit for me now. Shit Technique it is!

Oh crap, this video shown up again and reminded me when I was starting out on THRASH bass and I got a lot out of it. It's not about the wrist, it's about the thumb! A nice 5 year reminder of the influence of Evile in my playing :)

i had no idea that split ways with evile.. ive been out of the loop for quite a while, neglecting music and the scene all together. now i just came back here after figuring that out to wish you good luck!! old rake is an awesome album and there hasnt really been a new (guess "new" is relative just as much as everything else) solo artist worthy of the new seat at the greatest shredders table in a while ... i havent listened to a totally guitar centric album since plains of oblivion from loomis, thanks for providing us with something fresh! all the very best!

Ol has rejoined Evile now so all is good again.

Hey Old Rake! Would love more lesson & technique videos, especially now with the new album coming out. I am generally compelled by your style and it would be great to have some breakdowns of your solos and some of the theory behind them!

That lead technique with the finger movement is awesome! I started using it after seeing it on a Pebber Brown video and it has brought my lead playing to a new level. Can recommend! Also, love Old Rake, such a fun record!

you crack me up mate! I think a beneficial camera angle would be level with the body of the guitar. Like the last shot taken was ALMOST THERE, i was hoping the angle woul get just a BIT MORE "flatter" so you can see the tip of the pick going over the strings. Handy stuff there for me to try, still learning basics\intermediate here. LOOOVE your hooma too mate, funny makes it better. THRASH OUT OL!!!!!!!

Will you release a new solo album soon? How about doing something similar to Austrian Death Machine, but replace the Arnold theme with a Game of Thrones theme? That would be sweet! Has Matt talked about releasing a new album soon for Evile? You are one of the greatest guitar players, and don't receive enough credit. Thanks.
@OlDrake6 жыл бұрын
I'm working on my second solo album now. It will be old death/thrash with me on vocals and drums etc. Matt is writing new Evile stuff at the moment. Glad you like my playing!

Is it easier play with floyd rose or normal tune o matic, ihave only played with tune o and these tremolo picking things are really hard 😂🤷♂️
@OlDrake3 жыл бұрын
It takes a while to get used to Floyds as any pressure youbputon the bridge can raise the potch of the strings slightly, but once you're used to it they're great. I prefer playing on a floyd to anything.

The "Shit Technique" actually looks like the same motion you use when writing with a pencil. That might be a better way to describe the motion. Think about it... You write with your fingers, not your wrist. I'm going to have to try the Shit Writing style.
