Great information on a portable battery. Luckily, I got the answer from one of your other videos a couple years back. I am set up, even went to Home Depot and got your red tote boxes for all of my portable gear to fit in. See Michael, you are making a difference in the Ham Radio Field.

I always get the 45amp Anderson pole conectors. I just crimpt the for 30amp for smaller wires. It might not make a difference but I only have one type and never have to settle for a lesser amp for bigger wires. 👍

Cool you went to the noise good job. I am heading in that direction my self don't know if they little ferrites will help. Perhaps need to have a switch handy to turn off when on the air.

Anderson Power Pile connectors are rated as 15, 30, and 45 amps. I converted over to them in my shack when I started doing POTA, makes life very easy. Also when I go to the EOC.

Some of the nagative returns come back from the aerial coax. So a fuse in the -12 v line will be worthless.

I was first licensed in 1977 as WD9AGJ, since that time I have lived through four 12 VDC connector standards and power pole is the one that I've had the most problems with.

IOmega made external and PC drives that used a proprietary designed disk called Zip Drives with capacities between 100-750Mb.

I used two 12-volt 18 amp hour batteries in my go box with two switches one for each battery that way I don't run both down and I'm using the original fuse holders for the ft-891. 73 K4BWN

Fusing is super important!! But of course I'd say that... And was the bag from a zip (blue) or jaz (dark green) disk drive? 73, EDIT: others figured it out during the live stream

Iomega, tape drive computer backup? You have had that for a long time!

I had a bunch of Iomega Zip Drives in the late 1980's to late 1990's when USB thumbdrives started to gain traction.

Back in the '90s I was working at a software company and we'd frequently shuttle files back and forth from home to work using Zip disks.

I have been looking for that exact iomega case since I first saw it in a previous video . It's not a zip or a Jaz drive. I have seen no other pictures of iom gear using it. What is it from ?
@KB9VBRAntennasАй бұрын
the case is from a Zip 100 drive. Back in the '90s I was working at a software company and we'd frequently shuttle files back and forth from home to work using Zip disks. The drive is long gone, it probably suffered the 'click of death' but I held onto the case for it. The center portion of the case would hold the Zip drive and parallel cable and on the front are two pockets sized for Zip 100 disks.

What do you use for charging the battries back to full power again Michael , 73 KC1USS

I'm using a 10 amp LiFePO4 smart charger for my batteries. It is a little oversized for my small 12 ah battery, but it works great with the 20 and 50 amp hour batteries I own. The large 100 aH battery in my camper is typically charged with the onboard solar system.

@KB9VBRAntennas thanks Michael , 73 I'll check into that item soon , thanks for the info .

I upgraded all of my connections to 50A 600V Anderson Power Poles and it made a huge difference of voltage drop to the radio. As much as I love my Bioenno batteries I just can’t afford their 100Ah ones so I’ve been looking at alternatives. But there’s so many options and brands. Looking at reviews on Amazon they’re so mixed, just makes the choice that much harder. Then there’s digital, which I don’t understand why people run during activations. It’s so hard on the equipment and greatly reduces run time on a battery. Not to mention it’s too boring and is like watching paint dry. Don’t even get me started on the cheaters that run the 100% automated version 10 hours at a clip like K7CAR. There’s no way he’s sitting in front of that station all that time.

I watch the videos from Will Prowse to determine if a 100 ah battery is a good one. He does tear down videos of many of these inexpensive batteries and it gives you a great indicator of their quality based on how they are built and the type of BMS and cells they are using.
